do these malay/muslim reps speaks for all malay/muslim?
looks like these groups of NGOs have nothing better to do again. earlier, we read about some of them (though may not be same) lodging police report against penang’s CM for wanting to have road signs in english, tamil, mandarin and arabic.
now some groups of NGOs are lodging police report again – "over several issues which they claimed endangered muslim and malay unity." muslim and malay unity? were they speaking for ALL muslim/malays?
well one of the issue was concerning ISA:
The Heritage Associations, Malay Cultural Organisations and Related Bodies Cooperation Network (Pewaris) urged the Government to act against groups which are asking for the abolition of the Internal Security Act (ISA).
whoa! does this also mean us, the newly formed PAIN (penang anti ISA network – our first activity was the vigil at the esplanade)? does this means that each time, whoever are having anti ISA vigil or protest, the government should act against us?
as mustafa anuar pointed out (first came across this news from his blog), didn’t these groups of NGO think that ISA is detention without trial, and isn’t it that detention without trial is against islamic teaching. if they are for ISA, what muslim unity were they talking of?
He said the Malay NGOs felt that it was crucial for them to voice their concerns against the action of other parties which allegedly tried to belittle the Malays, Islam as the official religion of the Federation, and bumiputra rights.
*sigh* belittle them? zaid ibrahim was right. the malays are thinking they are under seige… er… i mean these malays from these NGOs here. what an inferiority complex. how insecure.
Later, about 500 of the coalition’s members held a peaceful gathering outside their meeting place at Wisma Sejarah before going to the Jalan Tun Razak police station to lodge their reports.
500? gathering OUTSIDE their meeting place? that means in public place right? 500? hey that’s more than 5!! our peaceful anti ISA protest which had only 100 – 300 or so people, was deemed illegal and the police and FRU came to disperse us and even to arrest people – then why these groups of 500 were not stop by the police?
btw, sidetrack a little from this issue, notice the spin by the MSM – it said here "…. held a PEACEFUL gathering outside…". whereas if you notice, all anti ISA gathering, the MSM, like the star here, will wrote "… held an ILLEGAL gathering…."
oh coming back to the 500 people who gathered ILLEGALLY OUTSIDE a building – why no action against them? double standard of course!
on another matter, it is sad to learn from malaysiakini, that the police were at ampang to stop the anti-ISA event which was organised by GMI (gerakan mansukan ISA) yesterday at ampang – again riot police were there to kacau the people and again people were arrested.
here is the story:

Police stop anti-ISA event in Ampang
Nov 23, 08 9:52pm
The police today moved in to disperse a group of people who had gathered at a field in Ampang Jaya since 8pm for the launch of an anti-ISA campaign.
In the process, it is learnt that about seven people have been arrested for failing to disperse.
Police light strike force unit started dispersing the crowd – numbering less than 100 – at about 9.26pm just as PAS vice-president Mohammad Sabu started to address the crowd.
By about 10pm, the police managed to remove the people from the field, with the assistance of a heavy rain.
Only a handful of people, armed with umbrellas, remained behind by the edge of the field.
The police meanwhile formed a line to stop people from gaining access to the field. By 10.30pm, the field was totally deserted with the crowd fully dispersed.
Earlier at about 9pm, the police had issued a warning to the crowd to disperse. About 40 Federal Reserve Unit personnel were on standby along with the normal police force.
Mohamad Sabu and PAS Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub arrived at the venue at about 9.15pm. Earlier Ampang member of parliament Zuraida Kamaruddin was seen to be in negotiation with the police.
Small group at police station
The campaign was organised by the Abolish ISA Movement (GMI). It was to be launched by Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.
GMI chairperson Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh was also present at the venue since early evening.
GMI secretary E Nalini said that among those arrested were three PAS leaders from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
Organisers also said that Anwar had not attended the event.
Those arrested were taken to the Pandan Indah police station.
A small group of people, led by Mohamad Sabu and Syed Ibrahim, gathered there in support of those arrested, monitored by a group of 20 policemen.
Earlier in the evening the police had erected roadblock along Jalan Pandan as early as 8pm.
In the run up to the event, apart from the roadblock, several police vehicles were also seen parked in the vicinity.
According to organisers, the heavy downpour had affected the crowd turnout.
The police had previously advised the organisers not to proceed with the event as there was no police permit for the event.
PJ vigil proceeded smoothly
Meanwhile a candlelight vigil at the Petaling Jaya Civic Centre tonight attracted about 100 people and proceeded peacefully and smoothly.
This is the second week the vigil – also held to oppose the ISA – was being held ‘legally’ with a police permit.
Three weeks ago, the police had dispersed the crowd while breaking up the "illegal assembly" and arrested 23 people in the process.
However last week the organisers were granted a police permit – with 12 conditions – to organise the vigil.
The 23 arrested people are to report back to the PJ police station tomorrow morning.
