damn! missed the forum because of the flood!

yeah wanted to go for the 916 forum but yesterday it rained cats and dogs the whole day and everywhere were flooded!

my friend who stays in tanjung bungah was suppose to come to the church (macalister road) to pick me when i told her so many places were flooded including where i was. i told her that han chiang might be flooded too so she decided not to go.

the rain yesterday started about 9.30am when i was taking the bus from home in bayan baru to the church!  the rain never stop at all right until past midnight! sometimes the rain was heavy, sometimes not, mostly heavy! and it went on and on and on non stop. the church was flooded (er… only the outside grounds i mean, not inside the church). especially at the gate entrance, the water was way above ankle height. terrible!

just before the steps that lead into the church, it was flooded too but not so high… still there were water everywhere and it made the people difficult to get into the church. all had no choice but to step on the water…. some we see, taking out their shoes, some didn’t but just roll up their pants.

after i attended mass at church, i went with a friend to new lane for dinner (the church is just a block away from new lane). wah! new lane was flooded! we had to fill our hungry stomach so despite the flood, we slowly waded through. the picture you see here is the coffee shop that i went to. full of water. sat down, ate my hokkien mee, while my feet was wet. as the coffee shop was near to a drain, now and then, i can feel the water rushing in, covering my feet. i did put my feet up on the legs of the table but still when the rush of water came it, it will cover my feet.

wah! first time experiencing eating with flood water at my feet! well er… the water being coming out from the drain was dirty and still we sat there eating. what to do… had to fill our stomachs.

so far, i only see NST reported about the flood in penang. tv3 also reported the flood at the midnight news (but only for 3 mins!). it was mentioned in NST that the flood was due to bad drainage system. this is so terrible! the rain though non stop but it was intermittently heavy and not heavy… not that it was heavy all the time… and yet many places were flooded!. yes such poor drainage system we have! clogged drains and rivers also contributed to the flood. the new government should look into penang’s flash flood problem… the drainage system problem. you know even with say 2 or 3 hours of heavy rain, some places will be flooded already! thus the government should check on those flood prone areas (with only 2 hours heavy rain) and see where’s the problem.

penang’s flash flood is not something new. had been happening all the while, years and years back. why nothing was being done i wonder. why the BN government spent money on other stuffs and not on improving the drainage system! terrible! that’s why i hope the new pakatan government can do something about it though i know it would be quite a ‘herculean’ task but at least it got to start somewhere!

over to you, mr CM lim guan eng.
