positive penang – good anti-corruption effort

UPDATED ON 27 SEPT. – video where LGE talked about TI’s recognition of penang (towards the end).

actually i had wanted to blog this yesterday when i blog on ‘negative penang – penang hill breakdown’. it’s to show the contrast – one negative and one positive but no time to blog on it after watching ‘fantastic 4’ on tv (then 3/4 through, find out i had already seen it on tv too. cheh!). never mind, still ok to blog on it today as i’m not having any other posts.

ok it’s about transparency international, while ranking malaysia as the 47th least corrupt nation in the world, sing praises of penang for its anti-corruption effort.  wah! CM lim guan eng’s head is swelling i see. lol. of course. mine too. ahem!

said LGE:

“Transparency International’s recognition of anti-corruption efforts by the Penang state government through CAT (Competency Accountability And Transparency) governance is backed up by savings of nearly 12 per cent of the 2008 Penang state budget of RM 36 million from operating expenditure. This RM36 million savings has allowed the state government to carry out social programs and implement its people-oriented government,”

i notice though quite a number of people has no support for the penang state government’s CAT motto, refering to it as bullshit.  well these are the people who are very critical of the govt. sometimes just because of one issue, they started accusing the govt, of not following its CAT motto.

well ok maybe for that one issue, the govt. is not CAT enough but don’t lah just for that one isue, you paint the govt. all black, that the govt. is not CAT at all and all throughout. i appreciate the effort the govt. is promoting CAT and i would like to give then the benefit of doubt that they did (and will) try their best to be CAT, thus i’m not going to be like an ’empty vessel that makes the most noise’ hitting out at the govt. all the time.  sure, they are not immune to criticism from me. i’ll hit out only when they really deserve to be hit. for sure not making silly remarks like the mantra people like to sing “we voted for change. we voted DAP but what are they doing? nothing!” (and some add “come next GE, we will not vote for them). i find these kind of people sort of arrogant… and er… like a child throwing tantrum – “i vote you! i want change! i want it now! now! no change means you are bad, bad, bad!”.  and worst.. some like to say the govt. is not better than the previous govt – BN! silly! the govt. is just 2 years into ruling the state while BN had been ruling 52 years, so you shouldn’t really compare.

oops. got carried away. was actually talking about the state government’s fight against corruption. ok.. talking about comparision just now, it looks like some do say that the PR govt is only 2 years sure no corruption… wait till they are 5 years, 15 years, 52 years (?), then sure there’ll be corruption.  well… er… yes i do agree on that one but as i said why do we look so much on the negative side. let’s be optimistic that the PR govt. will not turned out to be as corrupt as the BN govt! (oops).
