2malaysia indeed! now hishamuddin further confirmed it!
‘hisham defends cow-head protestors’
this is really too much!! so angry to read about this! (although it was expected). grrr!! :mad
very very obvious blatant double standard from the home minister!
what did i tell you about najib’s 1malaysia? TOTAL CRAP!
it’s 2malaysia! 1 for umno and 1 for non umno!
reading through the malaysian insider (and also malaysiakini, of which the article is below), i felt so angry and geram at what this kerismuddin had to say. was thinking of taking what he said and commented on it but i feel i have so much to comment and i know i will get mad therefore sprouting expletive words, so i’d better not! better now (1.10am) go and get a good sleep then to fume at the PM’s nonsensical, rubbish 1malaysia at this post before going to bed, which will not give me a good sleep.
oh wait a minute – just one comment before i go to bed. why was kerismuddin talking so much … i mean concentrating more about the cow’s head, also commenters at the malaysian insider and malaysiakini. “no intention to stir up racial tension with the cow’s head” and all that. forget the cow’s head for a moment but listen to what MAHYUDDIN MANAF and IBRAHIM HAJI SABRI said. it was what they said that was seditious, stirring up racial tension! imagine if someone from DAP or an NGO were to say that, immediately, she/he would be arrested! (or all those umnoputera will fire at her/him).

Hisham: Don’t blame cow-head protesters
Rahmah Ghazali
Sep 2, 09 6:25pm
Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said those involved in the ‘cow-head’ protest in Shah Alam last week cannot be blamed for the controversy.
Speaking after an hour-long closed-door meeting with residents’ representatives at his office in Putrajaya, he said the protesters “had no intention at all to bring the cow’s head and invoke racial sentiments or cause tension”.
“They are not going (to be let off) scot-free. But they just feel victimised because they feel there is another valid explanation and had no intention to cause racial (divisions),” he said.
Section 23 residents had mounted the protest against the proposed relocation of the Sri Maha Mariamman Hindu temple from Section 19 to their neighbourhood.
Hishammuddin said he was told that the “residents did not know the organisers and did not know a cow’s head would be brought during the demonstration”.
“When we sat and discussed this, they (said they) realised that they were in a situation they could not control.”
He further defended the protesters, saying that “they just wanted their voices to be heard”.
“However it was unfortunate that the protest was given negative publicity because it was linked to religious and racial sentiments,” he said.
Section 23 action committee chairperson Mahyuddin Manaf and residents’ committee chairperson Zainuddin Md Yusoff were among those who attended the meeting this afternoon.
The minister noted that the residents have since taken “a pro-active” measure by meeting with members of the Hindu Sanggam two days ago, and that both sides will hold another meeting tomorrow.
“So if it can be resolved quickly and both sides understand each other, why (should) they be penalised?” said Hishammuddin.
Although the protestors reportedly did not have a permit the minister said “the protest was not big and they (organisers) were very respectful of the Selangor sultan”.
“They even limited the number of people from the committee to only 10. In fact if they wanted to have a bigger protest they could have, but they were conscious (of the impact).
“All they wanted to do was to voice their unhappiness and the unwillingness of the state government to consider their request.”
‘Poor decision’ by state government
Hishammuddin said the Selangor government made a poor decision in relocating the temple to a predominantly Malay area.
“Even the Hindus are not passionate about the relocation of the temple to the area,” he claimed.
Asked why the police had not acted when the cow’s head was brought in, he claimed that action had been taken.
“I was monitoring it myself and reporting it to the prime minister,” he said.
Commenting on the upcoming dialogue between the Shah Alam Municipal Council and the residents to be held on Saturday, Hishammuddin said this comes “a little too late”.
“The residents had met the state representatives before. If they (the representatives had) resolved it then, there wouldn’t need to be a protest (in the first place),” he said.
On a personal note, Hishammuddin felt the protest “in this day and age should be accepted in this world, as the people want their voices to be heard”.
“If we don’t give them room to voice their opinions, they have no choice but to protest. (But) regardless of the action they take, they have to adhere to the laws of the country. So they have to be responsible,” he said.
The police, he added, will investigate the incident to identify who brought the cow’s head to the protest, in addition to conducting their usual probe into the protest because “no one is above the law”.
The police have already handed over the investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor’s office for further action.
Sedition or illegal assembly?
Meanwhile in another development, Selangor exco members Khalid Samad, Xavier Jayakumar and Klang MP Charles Santiago met Shah Alam district police chief ACP Noor Azam Jamaludin today to get a status report on the investigation against the protesters.
Santiago later told Malaysiakini that they were informed that the investigation papers were with the Attorney-General who is expected to make an announcement soon.
“The police chief said some people could be charged with sedition or for illegal assembly,” he said.
Santiago also hit out at Hishammuddin for meeting the protesters at his ministry today, accusing the minister of supporting the ‘cow-head’ protest.
“He seems to be sympathetic to the protesters. This is improper and irregular,” he said.
In a related development, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said it was up to the police and the AG to determine if the protesters have violated the Sedition Act.
