nov 15 vigil – change of venue
UPDATED ON 12/11/08, 12:50 PM – it’s back to the original venue of ESPLANADE.
——————————–
it seems that on 14, 15 and 16 nov. there will be this international tennis tournament going on at the esplanade. anticipating a big crowd, and possibility of some roads leading to the esplanade to be cordoned off, or even the presence of a lot of police, we had decided to change the venue of our 15 nov anti-ISA vigil to the nearby dewan sri pinang. yep, the same place where GMI/suaram used to have its friday weekly vigil. at least this place is not near to the esplanade field, where the tennis tournament is going on.
after learning of the tennis tournament, we, the organisers had cracked our head on where to have the vigil – whether to shift the venue or stick to same place. some of us had even surveyed suitable places, like gurney drive, polo ground, padang brown. finally, we decided to pick dewan sri pinang for several reasons. one of them being, we had the advise of a penang MP to hold it at dewan sri pinang, to play it safe, since others vigils had been held there. he even said he could have a word with the penang CPO.
so please do remember the venue is now at dewan sri pinang and not esplanade. there might be parking problems near the venue since, beside the tennis tournament, there will also be a show inside the dewan. well, you can always park on the roads opposite light street e.g. king street, penang street, pitt street, bishop street. yeah… a bit far from dewan sri but don’t complain lah… good exercise. come early, then you might have a good parking place, near to the venue.
ok so far, the programme is that we will have some speakers and some sing-along of popular songs. of course there will also be chanting, which i believe many of you enjoyed doing it. chant and hold your candles high! loud! let your voice be heard! the following are the confirmed speakers:
1. YB Chong Eng, MP for Bukit Mertajam, DAP Central Committee member
2. YB Mujahid Yusof Rawa, MP for Parit Buntar, PAS Central Committee member
3. Gary Nair, PRM Penang Chairman
sorry, RPK can’t be present. when i met him on sunday at the court-house and told him we wanted to invite him for our vigil, he had stated that his lawyers advised him to stay away from vigils for the time being since he had just been released from ISA and further, he still have 2 sedition trials on-going. we are still trying to get some other speakers.
a small group of bloggers from KL will be joining us, and they (the spokesperson i mean) might be given a slot to speak. oh yes, if there are other out-station bloggers or non bloggers who like to join in the vigil, but not sure of the place, please refer to the detailed map i have in my sticky post or simply click here. here is the road map, in case some of you were confused over the detailed map. the no. 10 is where the dewan sri pinang is at – facing lebuh light and side road is jalan tun syed sheik barakbah. for those of you who are still unsure of the place, even with the 2 maps, do contact me at lucial at gmail dot com.
