imagine… (part II)
continue from my post below.
that post was in response to someone who used the handle ‘doublestandard’ to made a long comment on my other post ‘cirminalising wars‘. btw, how come s/he used ‘doublestandard’ when s/he insisted dr m/the conference was not doublestandard? strange.
well in my post on criminalising wars i’m trying to point out was that dr m was a hypocrite and practise double standard. hypocrite – e.g. why accused B&B so much of war crimes when he himself was one too (a different kind of war)? double standard – why focused so much on B&B/US&UK and not on say sadaam/east timor?
doublestandard mentioned that i was not at the conference, that’s why i have this wild idea about dr m’s hypocrisy and double standard and it being a propaganda and all that. well, ok then, take it from someone who attended the conference – s/he too came to the conclusion it was all a propaganda.
then you also get to read from the many letters in malaysiakini how people believed dr m is himself a war criminal (or here) or someone who said dr m should try comedy instead.
my friend, walski, had a sharp mind to notice that:
To Malaysians, it may be ironic that such a conference is being held here. It’s a conference, whose primary driver is the sanctity of human life, held in a country that supports the death penalty. A conference that promotes speaking out against attrocities worldwide, when opinions of it’s own citizens continue to be repressed. A conference that is based on dissent against the criminal act of war, in a country where it’s own citizens dissent against injustice is being punished.
and also do go and read another friend’s view (though we had crossed swords more than we crossed handshakes. 😀 ) on dr m being a big time hypocrite here and here. to quote from him:
Mahathir seems to have misled audiences – he does not point out that much of the deaths in Iraq after the was began, are from sectarian killings, rather than from direct US military action. Perhaps he even misled himself, and actually believes all that he has been saying! That’s the problem when one has been driven by hatred and constant demonisation.
in case, someone, like karen (in comments of my post below – btw today no time to respond to the comments. will do so tomorrow) wanted to ask "i think you are just against dr m. true?", i’ll answer right now. no, i’m not against him as a person totally. i’m against his demonisation of the west. it can’t be deny this man had done some good for our country. there were aspects of him that i do like. i’m now speaking up after what happened at this conference. the final straw came when he label B&B as ‘killer of children’. this really get to me to expose his hypocrisy and double-standard. (and please no, i don’t support or have high regard for B&B at all.)
