sumatran rhino – most endangered animal in malaysia
do you know that there are only 5 species of rhinos surviving on earth? the black and white rhino can be found in the african and indian region, while the javan and sumatran in asia. sumatran rhino is the only 2-horned rhino in the asian region. the population of the rhino has declined due to poaching and loss of forest. less than 300 in the world, with insignificant numbers in malaysia. sumatran rhino is malaysia most endangered animal and world’s most endangered rhino species
in view of this, honda malaysia, together with WWF malaysia had embarked on a nationwide ‘save our sumatran rhinos‘ project. they have the support of the department of wildlife and national parks (PERHILITAN, perak state park corporation, sabah wildlife department and yayasan sabah group.
honda pledged a contribution of RM5 million to WWF. the funds will enable WWF malaysia to work closely with its partners to further strengthen the sumatran rhino conservation efforts.
well for bloggers like me, for sure i can’t pledge that much, let alone even RM500. (RM50 the most can lah), but what i can do is… what i’m doing now. write about the project in my blog and have the logo embedded in my blog. all this (this write-up i mean, not the project) came about through nuffnang, asia’s first blog advertising company, who informed us (their ads publishers) to do something about this project.
since i’m going to have the logo up in my blog for quite some time, here is an explanation of the logo.
The logo depicts a white rhino enclosed in a green circle.
– The circle represents our world and the colour green is used to signify eco-friendliness as well as the naturale eco-system of the earth, which includes flora and fauna.
– The colour white is used for the rhino to signify the rarity of the Sumatran rhino as Malaysia’s most endangered animal and the worl’s most endangered rhino species.
– The colour green 9s also apparent on the words ‘Save our Sumatran Rhino’ to emphasize the importance of protecting the species from extinction.
if you want to find out more about the project and also other interesting details, do pay a visit to the honda save our sumatran rhino website. i like the website… pretty cool indeed.
