my last post for the year
ok another 15 mins time and it’s going to be 2011. last day of 2010, i must made a post.
so what am i going to blog about? well nothing really but just ramblings. myself writing, for myself.
so how was 2010? well can’t really remember all that happened for the past 12 months, so will just see whatever i remember, mostly last few months of course.
on the news-front (politically especially), looks like 2010 is not leaving with good memories. let’s see…
– bad disturbing news that selangor might fall like perak when the fed govt appointed their own state secretary. and they (umno govt) hide behind the sultan, using the sultan as agreeing to the appointment and for the sultan to swear the speaker in too.
– recemt news about the PM’s aides ordering a christmas tea party organised by the christian federation of malaysia, not to put up crucifixes, not to sing hymns, not to recite prayers.
– form 4 history book had been very ‘islamised’ when it contains so much about islam. looks like ‘ketuanan islam’ is happening in school too.
– the recent case of businesman frame maker chua being beaten so badly over an expired road tax.
– oh of course what people had been talking about just 2 days before – our football team won the AFF suzuki cup.
– then who can ever forget the many many attacks from utusan, the malay daily (and umno), on our penang CM. (eg accusing him something about replacing his name over the king;s name in a mosque, brought up that the RM100 cash token for senior citizens were from gambling source, etc, etc, in general accusing the CM as anti malay/islam.
– PKR polls. did not go smoothly at all. accusations of this and that here and there.
– and of course speaking of PKR, the big news of zaid ibrahim leaving PKR and forming his own party.
– what about the silly antics of the parliament speaker in suspending so many opposition MPs at the same time? it had became a puppetry show in parliament!
of course there are many other news happening that are worth mentioning but i couldn’t remember or not so important. ok what about on the personal side. let’s see…
the best thing that happened in 2010 gotta be the visit of my sister, maria and brother, gerard from australia in may. they are my real biological brother and sister who were adopted by an australian couple when they were small and i have not seen them after all the years they are living in australia (40 years!). maria came with her hubby and youngest daughter while gerard is single, came alone. they were with us for 4 days and we had a most lovely unforgettable time together.
oh ya they made their visit to co-incide with my mum’s 80th birthday celebration, so ahh… that was another memorable event – my mum’s 80th birthday celebration.
there was also one memorable but sad event – when my unlce, a priest, who had been lying in vegetable state for 10 years, passed away in march.
and mentioning the month of march, i can’t forget that at the end of march, i had attended one of the most expensive dinner i ever attended. RM200 per person! it was s grand charity gala dinner at traders hotel, organised by the shangri la group to raise funds for the lighthouse (catholic drop-in centre) and of course i went FOC together with all my colleagues (how can i afford RM200!!).
oh ya i also remember now my trip to selangau, sarawak was in 2010. jan 2010 in fact… that was why at first i thought it was in 2009. that was a good memorable trip too when for the first time i experienced sleeping in a longhouse!
on and off attending many forums, seminars, had been good. the most memorable was the anti-ISA event at komtar walk where pro-ISA people, mostly mamak, came crashing in the event. the last one i attended was the youth parliament.
several of these events i attended in my capacity as ‘media’, covering for UCAN. yes last year i had quite a number of articles publshed in UCAN, not forgetting many to do with church of course. speaking of which, i also had a lot of articles up in our own catholic paper, the herald.
well i guess 2010 had been a good year for me personally but for the country…? nah, not good at all! that is i mean things that had been happening in our country – more negative than positive.
