wise old tok guru! (nik aziz)
at last nik aziz spoke up on the allah issue. (many people were waiting for PAS’s stand on this issue).
what did he said? he said ‘allah’ is allowed for non muslim. however, he added that it was up to the federal govt. to decide whether to allow it’s use by non muslims.
well, he’s wise. though he offered his opinion that non muslim should be allowed to use it, he knows that he has no authority to insist that the govt. should allow non muslim to use it. compare this to that of the chairman of the malaysian islamic da’wah foundation (yadim) who had try to flex his muscles, urging the home minister to withdraw the conditional use of the word ‘allah’.
well, it works. at once the scary homey MINIster rescinded the government gazette that allowed conditional use of the word "allah" just a day after it was gazetted. i read somewhere that this yadim chairman accused botak syed hamid as ‘derhaka’ if he allowed the use of ‘allah’ for non muslim. thus you see, how fast syed hamid rescinded the gazette!
what a laugh! the world is laughing at us already at this so very silly move of the govt. and all the fanatic muslim in disallowing non muslim to use ‘allah’ and now this flip flop from the homey MINIster, we’ll be laughed at more!
coming back to tok guru, i really admire and respect this man. apart from commenting on the word ‘allah’, he also commented on the word ‘bumiputera’, in which he said that the ‘bumiputera’ term is racist. indeed. another wise opinion.
In extraordinary remarks today, Pas spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat said the use of the term “bumiputera” smacks of racism and deprived other races of government aid.
so true. the very fact that only bumiputera are entitled to special priveleges already tells you it smacks of racism…. but do you think umno will agree to that? silly question. of course they won’t! anyone… the non bumiputera i mean who talk about this, immediately umno will cry ketuanan melayu and that non bumiputera are challenging malays’ rights and the constitution.
it takes the wise respected tok guru, nik aziz to see through the term ‘bumiputera’ – the hidden agenda of umnoputera who insisted on using bumiputera.
But Nik Aziz was reported by Bernama as saying today that not only did the term smack of racism but deprived other races sharing similar rights and having the same identity cards of government assistance.
“In an election, other races are allowed to cast one vote, so are the bumiputera," he said.
Nik Abdul Aziz said the government should form a body to manage aid for the poor in the country and not cater only for a single group known as the bumiputera.
“I don’t like the (use of the) word bumiputera. What I like is (use of the word) poor, for all races,” he added.
He said the poor, regardless of their race, should be given assistance.

Spirituality at its best

One which may provoke vitriolic debate for days and weeks to come , it has nontheless opened a fresh new vista of the political discourse in Malaysia.
This is a statement not for the non-Bumiputeras to repeat, but for the proponents and staunch supporters of Bumiputerism to take upon themselves to reflect on, with the full recource to God-given humanity and human social conscience. (Apologies to Tok Guru, and to all, for my using the term Bumiputra, so deeply ingrained in my psyche as in those of many Malaysians.)
No one possessed of basic decent humanity would begrudge government aid for the poor; such a role is indeed incumbent upon a people-orientated government. Why should we not support an economic policy by any name which delivers for the poor indigenous peoples of East and Peninsular Malaysia, and the Malay poor while not forgetting the poor among Indians and Chinese as well ?
Tonight Malaysians of all faiths or none, should take a moment of rare pride in these down-trodden times that they have a spiritual leader who is also a statesman as a political leader.
It may not disappoint Tok Guru however that one day in the future we may indeed cherish the term Bumiputera, when all will be regarded equals under the generous Malaysian sun; one day when Bumiputera would have lost any and all of its racial undertones.

Non- bumiputera, Sarawak.

Many have wondered why UMNO still has 50% support of the malays in spite that it is the most corrupt party in Malaysia and its members have the least Islamic values since they are utterly corrupt and only care for themselves and their families/cronies. Why then the strong support from malays FOR umno?
It is because they have indoctrinated and divided Malaysians into bumiputras and non-bumiputras. If you are a bumiputra you’re supposed to be special and have a leg up over the others. Therefore if you want to continue to be special and have a leg up over others, you must continue to vote UMNO into power year after year. The reality is that it is only the umnoputras who are accorded the special treatment while the ordinary malays continue to be among the poorest in Malaysia. Bumiputraism is the "spine" that has hoodwinked the malays for so long and held UMNO up all these while.
Take this spine away, all that is left in UMNO is the rotten decay and corruption. Take away bumiputraism and you take away the mask of UMNO and reveal its true rotten self! Nik Aziz has hit the nail on its head – this is the best and only way to hasten the downfall of UMNO!
It is like killing two birds with one stone – NEUTRALISE the power and influence of UMNO and at the same time drive a wedge between UMNO and its other BN component parties consisting of MCA, Gerakan, MIC, etc.
bumiputera means ‘son of the soil’ – aren’t we all, the different races, who were born in malaysia, the son of the soil? so all of us, regardless of race, who were born here are bumiputera! but umno hijack the word bumiputera to mean it for the malays only – thus it IS racist.
if bumiputera are entitled to special privileges, of course for sure the word bumiputera is racist, of course bumiputera means apartheid. why can’t the word bumiputera be done away with completely? oh cannot lah, because the top umno men (not those common malay rakyat) will die…. no masuk pocket… and the fanatics muslim will cry for non muslim blood with ketuanan melayu.
sad. that’s how our country is. 🙁
