world cup prayer
oh well, you see this coming i suppose – i mean talking about the world cup. so many bloggers had tallked (and still is) about it already but i haven’t yet, so i must jump in the bandwagon… but huh? a prayer? whazzit? getting religious over ‘the greatest game on earth’?
well i was surprise myself too when i get hold of our latest catholic weekly, the herald, (18 june issue) and saw right on cover page a picture of a match between a germany player and a costa rica player and this world cup prayer. at least, this makes my world cup post unique – to post something entirely different from what others had posted… though of course it is a CnP job. it’s a christian prayer ok, so to those over zealous muslims like the mutant mullahs walski69 created or the ulama seri harussani, better don’t read/say it, lest it erodes your faith.
ok, this is the intro to the prayer:
to encourage world cup fans to be united across the globe, a football-inspired prayer was shared at a prayer service.
“as goalkeepers, may we keep out the fierce shots of prejudice, racism and greed, saving others from penalties of poverty and disease.”
—–
lord god
the source of all life
and joy, recreation and skill,
we pray for all involved
in the world cup,
and especially for those
who represent our nation:
for good health
for the players,
for high standards of
sportmanship and fairness,
and for the safety
and well-being of all
who will watch,
that in our shared
enjoyment of the game,
we may rejoice in the one
who came to bring life
in all its fairness.
through jesus christ
our lord. amen.
