international weblogger’s day is coming

3rd International Weblogger’s Day – 14 June 2006

oh dear! i forgot all about international webloggers day (shorten to inweday) until about 10 days ago i spy a blogger mentioning it in project petaling street (PPS).

someone by the name of rio akasaka started the inweday in 2004. according to him, this is to:

Bring webloggers from around the world together on one day to celebrate a year’s worth of changing the way internet see personal journalism.

and what is international weblogger’s day?

International Weblogger’s Day, celebrated for the third time this year, is an event commemorating the work of webloggers worldwide by uniting them in a list of “participants” who all want an international day to celebrate the fastest-growing, most popular section of the Internet.

inweday is not an official event yet. as such, it seems that there are some bloggers who give the thumbs down to inweday and refused to acknowledge june 14 as inweday. they were saying stuffs like it was just a day started by someone, a day not officially recognised. well… don’t mind them, they were just being wet blankets. to me, i am grateful to rio for taking the initiative to launch a day as inweday. it is good to have one day in the year where bloggers can be recognised or to have a day, according to rio, “to celebrate a common goal: celebrating a year of wonderful, amazing, pensive blogging.”

at the 1st inweday in 2004, i organised a gathering but because of the short notice, only one person turned up. well i was not disappointed. doesn’t matter. what matter was i took the initiative to organise one right on the day itself (being weekday and working day).

in 2005 i organised one again, and this time i was pleasantly surprised to see 12 persons turning up. do read about it at the link i just gave. there are many photos there too.

to participate in this year’s inweday, simply submit your blog to the inweday site and promise to blog on the day – 14 june – (any topic) AND mentioned inweday. see, easy. after all you do blog everyday (well almost all does), right?

lucia: every bloggers welcome, top, middle, bottom… as long as you are a blogger. anyway methinks top bloggers would not want to join me a bottom blogger (hence you see few attendance). ;)Â

Wish I could join up. Perhaps when I do visit Malaysia I should time it for this event. Seems only right when 30%+ (somedays 40%+) of my visitiors are from Malaysia.

lucia: SA, we are not going to organise any meet-up for inweday as too short notice (refer my respond to ong too). however you can still participate in inweday by just making a post on that day – 14 june – and mentioning inweday (pointing to the website of course).Â

Not too late to do an open invite to Penang bloggers who can make it to come together for a makan/dinner to reflect on how far we have gone in 1 year since the last year celebration. Usually it is hard to initite something -but harder to maintain it! Usually only few of the hundreds/thousands of bloggers in Penang would show their face -so it is expectable and Ok that few do turn up. Why not try and see how short we can give notice for a bloggers meet in Penang ? Count me in if you think og doing one !

lucia: nah, too late. only 2 days. we might have some who turned up – 2 or 3 but it will be just a dinner get-together. what’s the point of seeing how far we have gone when only a few turned up?Â

I’m not surprised that there are people who would be contrary and say that InWeDay is merely a creation of someone who they may not know. But to them I say, InWeDay would not see the light of day without the power of bloggers like you or all the others who have sought to participate. That’s what makes it so powerful.

In any case, I wanted to thank you Lucia for the work you’ve done. I’m truly indebted, and if anyone should think that InWeDay is worthless, please feel free to direct comments to me.

aw shucks! you don’t have to feel indebted to me. it’s not ‘work’ for me but fun for me.

ok if i come across anyone with negative views of inweday, i’ll direct the comments to you. don’t worry rio, actually from last year (or was it 2 years ago) i only found 2 persons with negative comments but the way i talked about it here it was as though many eh?.Â
