national dis-service?

by now many of you would have read about the many fights, riots, and what-have-you (as you can find in details in lone’s blog), that happened in the national service (NS) camps. due to this, DAP had called on the cabinet to suspend NS. and has also issued a press statement on this.

what do you think? will the cabinet suspend NS? i bet my bottom dollars NO!! how can man, when the idea of the NS was mooted by none other than our deputy PM, najib. to suspend NS would be like him to admit defeat… that NS is not working well, so no way, mr lim kit siang, will they suspend NS.

actually the idea of a NS itself is good but the way it was implemented in our bolehland already spells doom (failure). it was a rush job and everything seemed to be done in a hush hush way. yes it spell doom when, in the first place, according to najib, the main objective of NS was to promote national unity/loyalty to the country among the youth. how on earth can one promote national unity by throwing a bunch of kids together and toughen them up via various means? anyway if the govt. is very serious in national unity via the NS, shouldn’t the NS be given a through study, many heads get together to see how best to implement it, slowly study every angle e.g. what things need to be done, who should be the trainers, etc, etc, instead of rushing into it?

coming back to this issue of indiscipline and gangsterism in NS, i suppose it wouldn’t be wrong of me to say this is expected. i mean, come on, if you throw a bunch of kids together, doing things together, all 24 hrs, everyday, sure there’ll bound to be some fights and so on. the thing is i hope these acts won’t increased and the authorities will take action to hopefully prevent them from happening again.
