rain and flood

in yesterday’s paper (the star) did you read about floods in penang’s city? there was a continous rain for 14 hrs on thursday (2 oct). and it seemed that it happened again on friday… this time the continous rain fell even longer… almost 20 hrs i think… and most of the time it was heavy too. and oh yes everywhere flooded. (you will get to read about it in the saturday’s paper i suppose. i’m now writing this at early morn of saturday – 1.50am – so haven’t seen the saturday paper yet!)

why is it everytime it rains, there’ll be flood here and there, esp. low lying areas. either heavy-light-heavy-light continous rain for several hours or heavy rain for only 1 or 2 hrs, low lying areas will sure be flooded. it’s terrible lah.

rain -> flood -> traffic jam – > sparks flying among the motorists – > cash flowing for the mechanics/tow truck company.

yep. once it rain, flood and flood cause traffic jam which unfray the nerves of motorists. and their nerves further become frayed when their vehicles were stalled due to the water. the only happy people around at this time are the car mechanics/tow trucks because they get to make lots of money out of all these stalled cars.

why is it that flood occurs so easily after a heavy/continous rain? ah of course the infrastructure… or rather the drainage system. if this happens so often, shouldn’t the penang govt. be aware of it and try to improve the drainage system? guess it’s just another case of the ‘tidak apa’ attitude of the gomen.
