display/fly the flag upside down? no thank you!
Post on Aug.05, 2008
it’s disrespectful and an insult! especially at a time when one goes crying ‘daulat tuanku!’.
apparently this call to display the flag upside down was started by kickdefella, then joined in by zorro and people’s parliament. oh well, since these 3 are famous bloggers, of course they have lots of readers… loyal readers who usually go with what they do/say… hence from the 3, it become 10, 20… what? how many now? how many moronic malaysians, as yein jee stated?
another famous blogger, susan loone, also blogs on this issue but she goes a step further… or is it taking a neutral stand?… by saying she will not raised the flag whether upright or upside down. though she is a good friend of mine, i disagree with her view there, just like i disagree with the view of those 3 famous bloggers.
they said displaying or flying the flag upside down is not being disrespectful to the flag but it is a sign of distress. excuse me, malaysia is in distress? gee, i guess that depends on how one define distress.
yes, i am very disappointed and sad at what had been going on in our country…. the judiciary, corruption, lack of freedom, double standard, racial politics and so on. yes i am angry at the politicians, angry at the federal government, angry at the policies and so on BUT i still love my country, so how could i have the heart to fly the flag upside down? i was born in malaysia, lived in malaysia all my life…. despite all my complains and grumblings at the gomen and so on, i still love malaysia. compare to many other countries (third world countries), we are way better off.
our jalur gemilang represent our country. i am not angry at our country but at the polticians and the policies. as merdeka approach, i will put up the flag all right in my blog… as it should be.
however, i have to say that i don’t support the idea of "if you don’t fly the flag, you are not loyal" bullshit… which, i bet you, you will soon hear sprouting from some ministers mouth, so susan, though refusing to fly the flag, she is still loyal! well, most of us are i believe… even the 3 famous bloggers mentioned above are. i believe in one way or another, we (esp. the older folks of course) all are loyal. if not, why would we be bothered so much with all the turmoil that had been going on in our country eh. we could easily packed our bags and leave malaysia and who cares what the heck is happening in the country! we care… that’s why we talk (blog) about it.
that’s why being loyal to the country, despite all its warts and burns (eh… that is not the correct expression!), i love my country and love my flag… which i will either not fly it or fly it as it is.
well… this is the one flag that i don’t mind flying upside down to show my distress with IT. (my distress is with IT, not with the country).

Sadly there are many so called political bloggers out there who care a lot about their own readership and how they look to their readers. Infact too much. their writing style and choice of pedantic legal jargons plus swear words here and there is tiresome to say the least. An alert reader will have noticed their quick sensationalism on things that will attract mass interests, whether its totally unrealistic and nonsensical to put into practise. Often one detects a personal devious motive in their line of argument , certainly not in the interest of Malaysians in general . I saw their trick and treachery on boycotting MSM on Tuesdays.
Now this upside down thing.
They are going round the bush for their own sinister motives/ends. They enjoy doing spectacular things. Perhaps they like writing too much and loves to engage their readers on intelligent but useless debates to occupy their bountiful leisure times.
Say , why not they for once do something practical like getting support to ask AAB to step down ? Get 100,000 signatures to get rid of AAB ! Since we all know that Malaysia has a real & present Leadership crisis which needs urgent action?
I have not seen a single Blogger brave and truthful enough to say get AAB out now , and really do something about it ( or am I mistaken ?) !
Its time to engage in Productive Blogging ! a realistic and productive step at a time

Raise the BN flag, even when upside down? I wouldn’t even want to taint my hands doing that

Oh, I like the BN flag upside down. Looks like two parachutes, but where would they land? No where I guess. Hope they have a nasty landing.

Well said, Lucia.
I agree that all the politician, or political bloggers shall not mixed our national flag with their own feelings. The national flag belong to all Malaysian, whether they are for or against the BN.
OR I have to say the national flag is not owned by BN, so don’t mix-up.

i absolutely agree with you on what you said of certain political bloggers.
klaw
ya i guess just touching it gives us the creep.
susan
now that you brought it up, ya the flag does look like 2 parachutes. they already had a nasty landing on 8 march.
jh
glad you able to see it this way but unfortunately those so called famous SoPo (socio political) bloggers don’t. they justified their action by keep repeating that raising the flag upside down is an INTERNATIONAL SIGN of distress, they are not showing disrespect.
international sign? distress? who cares about international? we are talking about our own beloved country! distress? what distress they mean? the distress were not caused by the country but by BN, mostly UMNO, so go display/fly BN/UMNO flag upside down instead of our beloved jalur gemilang.

heys.. i so agree with you. we shudnt give the giv reason to hentam us by flying the flag upside down.
i love Malaysia. i love the country i was born in. given opportunities (though not as many, but still..?) better here than in place with REAL distress, war, and inequalities.
I love the country. its the GOVERNMENT that i’ve lost hope in. the flag is the country’s pride and honor. flying it upside down is disrecpectful to the COUNTRY. period.
as much as i love this country, and its people, and its geographical location, the GOVERNMENT is also part of the country. but i say this, dun dislike the country, dislike the GOV.
and i must say, thats pretty brilliant to terbalikkan the BN logo.
.
you rox!

it is, as we all think, is DISRESPECTFUL. and i think the bloggers who proposed this idea, are DISRESPECTFUL to their OWN loyal readers. one may hate one party or the other, but it is not an excuse to say that we are in need of a distress call.
the flag represents MALAYSIA, and the flag represents it’s loving citizens – MINUS the bad apples.
