How, why and what

HOW AND WHY I START BLOGGING

copied from old blog at blogger, the why and how part I dated 27 sept. 2003 and the why and how part II dated 28 sept. 2003.

===================

PART I

my interest in blogging started many moons away… at the time when jeff ooi’s blog ‘screenshot‘ was first featured in the star paper. then about the same time, my 13 years old niece in singapore told me she started a blog too. i was thinking to myself, hey if a 13 year old kid can, why not me? so i try to start one… with the help of my dear long-time online friend, wits0 (his handle on the net) whom i ‘met’ via the
beritamalaysia‘ newsgroup.

wits0 did not have any experience in blogging at all so all he was able to do was to source here and there for information, which can be found on the net if i myself searched for it, but of course when he pointed out a source of help, he added in his own personal techie expertise.that’s the difference of me myself searching for the info. lah. see, not that i’m lazy. heh! (thanx wits0!).

i did start one somewhere in april this year, but found that my weblog turned into a deadlog when i don’t know how in the world do i go back to do posting. so i let my blog rest in peace. then one day i was just mentioning hopefully someone would help me to start off a blog when i was making some comments in jeff’s blog, and lo and behold a lone good samaritan answered my call – lone! he guided me through the first few basic steps so finally i did started a blog of my own (thanx lone!)… but that was about it. i was contend to only have started a blog but do no postings. for reasons like no time, dunno what to post, scared dunno how to use, worry dunno how to use the features, etc.

then one day when i was at jikon lai’s (my ‘kaki lang’ since i am a lai too) blog, one of his postings entitled ‘reading blogs’, which comes in 4 parts attracted me. it gave me some insight into why people go into blogging and that sort of give me the confidence to start a blog, and finally jikon’s comments also boost up my confidence (thanx jikon!) when he said that i should not worry too much about advanced features (like using links, archives, images, etc) when it is the contents that is more important. hmm… true…as long as i have something to blab about… hey, go and post! features can come in later… so here i am now!

PART II

another thing is i feel blogging should suit me since i love to yak-yak-yak a lo…. in writing! yes i love writing and i love talking and a blog will sure give me the opportunity to do just that. well i write better than i talk anyway. yes, ‘talking’ in writing i can do very well but talking in person… believe it or not, i’m rather shy. it’s like a different persona of me…in writing and in person. but no fear, once i warm up to a person/group. i can talk a lot.

ok i just have to mention here who are my 3+1 favourite bloggers. it so happen that the 3 are with names that start with J – jeff ooi, johan ismail and jikon lai! and the odd one out, his name start with same letter as mine – lone! all 4 bloggers had some influence on me to start get going with my blog so ‘banyak terima kasih’ to this quadruplets bloggers! others too of course did give me some encouragement through some short comments here and there. so thanks also goes to all those not mentioned.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF MY BLOG HEADING?
(why i choose the heading ‘mental jog’)
copied from old blog ‘the heading on my blog‘.

you see, i remember many years back reading in the paper a feature on reading, someone complained that people don’t read as often as they should and he further said “to keep your body healthy, you take up exercises like body lifting, swimming and so on. well, you need to keep your mind healthy too and how do you do that? exercising your mind! and you do that through reading.”

hmm… i realised it is true. when you read, you learn, when you learn, you grow. that’s why the saying ‘we stop growing when we stop learning’.

when i’m talking about reading here, it also include writing ok, because it is when you read a lot, that you get to write a lot, right? so reading and writing kind of go hand in hand.

ok so we need to read and write to exercise our mind… to jog our mind into alertness and not let our mind idle away. therefore i now humbly attempt to give you a MENTAL JOG via my blog, and of course it works both ways – i’ll have to read a lot to come up with articles/postings, so with all the postings i do, i’ll too be giving my mind a good jog. (your comments will jog me too, so remember to put in some comments under ‘jogging of minds’ ok.)
