by-election is like christmas

this is taken somewhere from the net.

——————————————-
By-Elections Are Like Christmas…
People spend a lot of time and money preparing for it…
People make wish-lists, promise goodies…
People do hell a lot of decorating…
Fracas happens…not unlike shopping for present and goodies…
If you’re naughty, you’re not getting any…
And you hear all the sweetness in the air…
But after that ONE day,
Presents unwrapped (or lack thereof) and people do not always get the gifts they wanted…
The decorations – literally and figuratively, remain there or just being chucked away…
Everything’s back to normal, it’s just an easy-come-easy-go occasion..

2 faced mr perkasa?

if you recall, some time back, when BN decided to field an indian (MIC)  for the hulu selangor by-election, it decided to stay away from campaigning for  BN.  that was on 9 april, before the name of the candidate was announced (but already known from MIC). then suddenly yesterday, we heard that the boss of perkasa,  ibrahim ali,  said he will campaign for BN.

huh?? what gives?? well, apparently katak ibrahim’s aide said he is campaigning as an independent MP, not as a perkasa member. huh?? like that also can? isn’t ibrahim ali the pasir mas independent MP and ibrahim ali, perkasa president the same person? wahh! don’t tell me, he can put on the face of an independent MP for one moment, and the face of perkasa boss for another?

or perhaps his decision to campaign was because the BN candidate, kamalanathan defended perkasa – made known publicly that he support perkasa!! hmm…  my dear kamalanathan, you did not hear how perkasa suddenly said they will not campaign in the by-election because an indian was chosen? and aren’t you an indian? and yet you defended perkasa! oh my! this is really mind boggling!!

introducing MAFREL’s kuala terengganu blog

oh gosh, yesterday my streamyx connection at home was down and i couldn’t get on the net at all! very fed up! i hope today, after i got home (am in office now), the streamyx connection is ok. if not, i’ll have to go without the net for one day again – arggh!!!

ok ok, coming to the heading here. as all of you are aware, there will be a by-election in kuala terengganu, and as usual, MAFREL members will be monitoring the election. we had started a blog for this purpose – to post information/news and anyting related to the by-election. actually it is an old blog – i had it set up during the permatang pauh by-election and there had been a lot of postings during that period. now, that the k. terengganu by-election is here, we thought, we just use back the same blog (since it’s url is under MAFREL anyway).

now in the beginning, we have nothing much to post yet, so i posted up related articles from various sources, especially malaysiakini. later on, as the MAFREL team in terengganu get going, we’ll have lots to post up. so for those who are interested to catch news regarding the by-election, please don’t forget to bookmark the kuala terengganu by-election blog, ok?
(psst. after all candidtes have been announced, gonna need an ‘artist’ to help me do the header.)

buy election begins for BN

… as the education ministry generously announced a RM1 million allocation to 5 chinese schools in permatang pauh, so went the report from malaysiakini.

oh wow! why there’s no by-election in my area ah? few  schools here, chinese, indian, malays are run-down and need renovations. the road here ah very bumpy with many potholes. if there is a by-election, guarantee all these will be solved by BN!! not fair lah!

listen to what arif shah had the cheek to say here (all quoted text taken from malaysiakini):

Met at a BN function later, Arif Shah cited the allocation – where the five schools will get RM200,000 each – as an example why the voters should back the ruling coalition.

"The Permatang Pauh people will benefit, you can see it happen (such as this allocation)," he told reporters after the launch of the BN Youth election machinery in Permatang Pasir.

wow! that pretty sum it up! vote BN! you’ll benefit a lot because BN has the money!

Arif Shah, who is also the Seberang Jaya state assemblyperson, appealed to voters to give him a chance as he said he will then be able to have more allocations to develop the constituency.

see? only during by-elections they will be all out to develop the constituency. what’s new!

"Although I am the Seberang Jaya state assemblyperson but in the state government, I am the opposition. I don’t have the allocation.

"If I am the BN MP, I will be able to help not just Seberang Jaya but also Penanti and Permatang Pasir (voters) through my cordial relationship with the Prime Minister (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi), Deputy Prime Minister (Najib Abdul Razak) and the federal government," he said.

ahhh…. cronism helps a lot, we know that. doesn’t this confirmed the fact that federal government pulls out lots of projects from penang or stop allocation to PR ruled states because they are not cronies?

we may look into all these as bribery but unfortunately the election commission (which comes under the federal government, remember!!) does not see it as bribery, i think….

However, there is a grey area on whether the allocation or goodies handed out by the candidate’s party during election campaigns contradicts any election law.

The Election Commission has previously argued that these developmental allocations are not a form of bribery.

maybe it is only when it is PKR/DAP/PAS who are doing it?

Meanwhile, MCA Youth chief Liow Tiong Lai, who accompanied Arif Shah, said the voters should support the BN candidate because the latter will be able to the serve the rakyat.

"If you elect Anwar, he will just treat this as a stepping stone (to overthrow the BN government) but the locals want to see real development in the constituency," said Liow, who is also the health minister.

development! development! development only comes when buy-election comes! malaysia boleh! oops. BN boleh!

BN candidate for by-election announced

it is seberang jaya assemblyman, arif shah omar shah (picture left), as i came across in malaysiakini. the seberang jaya state constituency is one of three state seats under permatang pauh. the other two are permatang pasir and penanti, which are currently held  PAS and PKR respectively.

malaysiakini reports:

Arif Shah is a two-term state representative. He can speak fluent Mandarin, an advantage obviously seen by the BN as a move to swing back the Chinese voters back to it.

whoa! trying to attract chinese voters i see. however, it is not what the man able to speak but what the man is that will attract voters, all races included.

As for the candidate himself, Arif Shah said that he was confident of wrestling the seat away from PKR. He however added that he might not be able to do so with an overwhelming majority.

"Anwar may be good in one thing but not everything. People need a service-oriented MP," he added.

looks like arif shah is confident he will win! well, good luck to him,

NOTE:  please viist the MAFREL blog for my post on MAFREL’s temporaty operation centre and the meetings we had.
