our MC was arrested
our MC, paula of masterwordsmith-unplugged blog was arrested at the anti-ISA candlelight vigil last night. went to the police station at 9.30pm. 6 of us organisers, several from the press (chinese press mostly and malaysiakini’s athi) and several attendees of the vigil - in total about 20 (including 2 priests) were at the police station to show our support and solidarity. we were all inside the police station but at the compound.
seemed that the police arrest her under section 143, illegal assembly. after the run about of questioning and statements, she was finally released at 1.10am.
DAP MP liew chin toong came to the police station after we gave him a call - about 10.45pm. later on DAP MP jeff ooi also dropped by for a while. liew chin toong stayed with paula until she was released. a big thank you to the kind, friend YB liew.
i came back about 3.00am. lots to update and pictures to show but will do so tomorrow…. or later in the night.
in the meantime, read the account from some other bloggers. i will be back to update you all, on the happenings, right from the start of the vigil down to 2.00am after our very late dinner… er… supper?… with paula after her release.

nov 15 vigil - change of venue
UPDATED ON 12/11/08, 12:50 PM - it’s back to the original venue of ESPLANADE.
——————————–
it seems that on 14, 15 and 16 nov. there will be this international tennis tournament going on at the esplanade. anticipating a big crowd, and possibility of some roads leading to the esplanade to be cordoned off, or even the presence of a lot of police, we had decided to change the venue of our 15 nov anti-ISA vigil to the nearby dewan sri pinang. yep, the same place where GMI/suaram used to have its friday weekly vigil. at least this place is not near to the esplanade field, where the tennis tournament is going on.

kee thuan chye captured their attention
wanted to attend the pictorial exhibition yesterday but by the time i reached town, i had a headache (yesterday afternoon was damn hot!) so i didn’t. instead spent the one hour at the church office until 2.15pm when i went for kee thuan chye’s book reading (part of the little penang street market activities) at the foyer of ‘the garage’ in penang road/farquhar street.
(note: ‘the garage’ of course is not a really a garage. well it was originally a garage but converted into a building with shops and restaurants. read about it here)

‘zero waste home’ film today
this is a long overdue post. i attended this recycling talk on 7 sept and was suppose to blog about it at least a week after but due to too many political matters and issues popping up, i blog about those instead. actually i had already prepared the write-up in the beginning of sept on my PDA - waiting for post to blog with pictures. i decided to blog about it today since today what i am going to blog about will be shown as a film today!
ok this is the write-up i had made much earlier…. (CnP from my PDA).

online shopping with 30,000 stores!
how many of you have done online shopping before? i’m actually wary of doing online shopping and hardly indulge in it… unless maybe it is absolutely urgent and needed e.g. really wanted something i can’t get in malaysia. well so far i did online shopping once - when i shop for some accessories for my dell axim x51v PDA. to my surprise, it was fast, easy and efficient! (it was at a site that specialise in accessories for hand-held gadgets, including mobile phones)
well since my first online shopping experience was good, i guess i’ll be game for further online shopping. if you are thinking of online shopping, look no further that shop wiki where you can find over 30,000 stores! that’s right! 30,000 mind you, not the more common 1,000. you can shop till you dropped then with so many places to browse, browse and browse.
ladies who are into sports, at shop wiki, you’ll get to see many trainers shoes with famous brand like reebok and nike. and for the vain-port in the ladies, there are products like hair clippers. the site is very friendly and easy to browse. at a glance, you’ll see pictures and the price. moving your mouse over a picture, you’ll see the names of stores with the product available popping up.
those who are tech inclined (i am too… but not tech expert), shop wiki has products like laptop, ipod, nintendo, webcam.
yes there are many categories of products available, where you can browse through via its directory. all in all, shop wiki is a comprehensive online shopping site indeed.

‘march 8: the day m’sia woke up’ book reading by kee thuan chye
what is book reading? it is a term used by the monthly little penang street market (LPSM), which is one of their activity. the explanation goes:
Provides an opportunity for the Penang public to meet Penang and Malaysian authors, to listen to their work and discuss it together. Again, making the written word more directly accessible to Penang audiences is what drives this activity. It also gives an opportunity for newer writers to showcase their work and for their talents to be nurtured.
