caught! so pay up now!!
after deciding to suspend the licence of those who cause accidents (beats me how they tell who’s the guilty party), here comes another new rule – motorists who are booked for traffic offences will have to pay their compound fine on the spot.
pay on the spot? sounds familiar… sounds like something the traffic police already practised.
“datuk, kasi chance lah. nah, ini RM50 minum kopi.”
and the datuk police accept. there! on-the-spot payment!!
seriously, i feel this ruling is quite a good idea… except for one fact… what if the offender does not have so much money with him/her? it says the fine will be as much as RM300. i’m sure not many drivers drive around with RM300 cash in their wallet/purse! oh, maybe the counter that is set up at the roadblock for the on-the-spot payment accept credit card? cheque?
the transport minister, datuk seri chan kong choy describe some of the serious traffic offences as:
exceeding the speed limit, overtaking in a dangerous manner, overtaking at the double lines, overtaking from the emergency lane, beating the red light and driving on the right lane for heavy vehicles.
gee, this had been happening all along, almost everyday when i travel to and fro to work. to – i travel along green lane, fro – i travel along jelutong – both places where traffic are heavy. it irritate me so much to see drivers cutting the queue using the emergency lane, and many speed like mad past the red light (usually when it just turned red). why then no police action? oh silly me, no police to be seen, so what action. however, if the police are really serious in catching traffic offenders, knowing well at certain places where drivers are more likely to commit offences, they should at least be station there. oops. but if they are station there, the drivers on seeing them, would act like angels. never mind, there’s this thing call camera.
speaking of camera… well since now the ministers are so into new rulings to prevent accidents/nab traffic offenders, i, as mini-sister (i’m female and i’m small, see) propose to let the citizen help the police in nabbing the traffic offenders. how? e.g. when they spy someone cutting into the emergency lane, they take a photo of the offender, of course focusing on the car registraton numbers (not on the pretty lady behind the wheel, mind you). record the place, date and time, then pass this photo to the police, and i’m sure the police can trace them and summoun them! good idea or not?
