sale! sale! sale??
i’m sure many of you know of the mega sales carnival 2004 that is going on now (24 july to 5 sept.). so werre you caught by the sales bug and decided to shop shop shop till you drop (or decided to)? don’t. sales are not what you think they are. t
over at jeff ooi’s blog on ‘mega malaysia boleh sales’ he blog on a letter from a foreigner that appeared in NST. the letter stated that (among other things):
At a well-known department store, a pair of girl’s trousers sold at RM63 during the pre-sale days had jumped to RM83.
At shop No. 2, a pair of lady shoes priced at RM52 before the mega sales had risen to RM64, shamelessly tagged with a 10% discount!
well, i’m not surprised at all as i don’t really believe in sales. more often than not, the prices are hiked up first before they offer you discounts (especially for discount of over 50%). before you buy something, even though you are tempted by the discount, better to check first with other places. who knows other places might offer cheaper rate, even without discount.
i found that out at one of the watson store they have this calendar that comes with little cut-out coupons for discount on items. once i cut out the coupon for an item that gave me RM2 off. the shelf price was RM18.90 so after the RM2 deduction, i can get it at RM16.90. i thought i had a good bargain of less RM2, but i was shocked when i see the same item in another shop at only RM16.90. therefore the discount at watson was a bluff
well i guess some shops/dept. stores do have genuine sales but usually it is only for a few selected items. that’s thier way of drawing you to shop at their place. supermarket and dept. stores especially like to have weekend sales or members’ day sale. during this time, you will see many aunties or grandmas carrying a number of toilet rolls! yeah it’s funny that the most sought after and saleable sale item is usually the toilet rolls… and also tissue paper.
btw, speaking of shopping, here’s the difference between how men and women shop:
