shop, eat, see in KL
Ahh… Had a good trip in KL this time. Met many friends and bought a few things.
Ok, let’s see… I’ll start from day 1 (sat. 27 dec). Uh..oh… Sound like a long winded story coming up. Haha. Ok warning alert! This will be a long-winded very personalized post with lots of pictures, so if you are not into reading such stuff, stop reading now!
Well, I reached kl on sat. afternoon and met up with sharon’s cousin and together we went to sg wang plaza to meet sharon. Sharon’s mum and aunty who were from labuan (yes, that’s sharon’s hometown) were with her too. I had met them before more than 10 years ago when they came to penang for the first time for sight-seeing and I was the one who showed them around.
We walked around sg wang complex for some shopping. Actually I have no intention of buying anything but you know lah, the temptation is there – i ended up buying a t-shirt (pic below) and a 3/4 thighs. After some time, we decided to go home.
So I stayed in sharon’s condo, together with her boyfriend, mum, aunty, 2 cousins and a cousin’s friend. Wow! Full house! Very ‘lau jeok’ (hokkien word for ‘meriah’ in bahasa. Er.. Can’t find the word in english.)
The next morning, being a sunday, we went to church first. That was my first time attending mass in the well-known st francis xavier church in PJ. There was a stall in front of the church selling stuffs and I saw this lovely bag on sale and thought it might fit the notebook I just bought. I am looking around for a bag to hold it when i bring it out of the house. The bag that comes with it is big and clumsy looking. The material is quite sturdy… er… don’t know how to call it… kind of like thick rought plastic. I’m sure it will be able to hold the notebook. At any rate if not, I’ll use it temporary. I like the colours, design and words. As you can see here (pic below), it is black (my fav. colour!) and it has pink which makes it stand out… and the words are actually based on a bible passage.
After church, we went to have brunch at kenny rogers restaurant in mid-valley, because we were going to watch a movie (the day the earth stood still) there. Nice movie but I found the ending was rather abrupt.
We then went to amcorp malll. It was my first time there and I like the place. I like the flea market with all the antique items on sale, and also those handicraft and costume jewellery stalls. I notice that the shops in the mall have reasonable prices, and I ended up buying a lacey pink pants (pic below) . Actually wanted purple or white but couldn’t get my size.
I was also looking around for a shoe but couldn’t get my size. Poor me. For being short, small and fat, I always had difficulty finding a pants or a shoe.
Shoes – I wear the smallest, either size 3 or 4 (36) and very few brands have those sizes.
Pants – being fat, my waist is big, and if I get a big waist pants, the length will be long, and being short, the length can’t fit me. OTOH if the length suit me, the waist won’t! (too small). You see the dilemma i’m in? Guess it’s better for me to get a custom-made tailored pants, but you know lah in this age we want speed, varieties and convenience, people prefer to drop in shopping complex to pick one. Ahh… Then I should wish for a body shape like angelina jolie. Lol.
After that, we went to plaza hartamas. I had no intention to buy anything else but when sharon went into ‘the natural source (TNS)’ shop to buy something, I followed her and ended up buying a hand moisturizer.
On monday (29 dec), I went alone to meet my friend, L at mid-valley. We had lunch there at esquire kitchen. Although both of us order noodles, we also order 2 dishes – fried asparagus and ‘ma poh tafu’ (bean curd). Wow. For that meal, it cost us near RM60.
We walked around mid-valley after our lunch. When I told L about me buying a bag for my notebook in church, she said not long ago, she had bought a bag which can hold a notebook (with special compartment ) which also double as a handbag. So she took me to isetan to look for it. Ah we found it. It looked nice and suitable, but since I had already bought one at the church (though a common bag), maybe next time. Further it is quite costly at RM79.90… and if I buy it, my money will be dried up! I hope next time when I wanted it, it is available in penang.
Took some pictures of the Christmas decoration at mid-valley. Here’s one – what’s with the giant bird cage doing there, i wonder?
At 4.30pm, another friend , S came to pick me and together we went to the tugu negara (war monument). it had been a long time I had wanted to go there, as I haven’t been there before at all. at every of my kl trip, I had missed it. A mutual friend of us, J, joined us at the tugu.
Another place that I always wanted to go was the KL tower, and S was kind enough to bring me there. He told me the entrance fee to the tower will be around RM10 but to our horror, when we reached there, we found out it was RM38! we felt that RM38 was too much to pay so we didn’t go up the tower.
(note: all the above was written on my PDA while i was on the bus journey from KL to penang)
when i was home, i looked up the tower website and realised that the RM38 fee include a lots of other stuffs. aiya not fair lah. what if i just want to go up the observation deck to look at the scenery and not interested in the other stuffs? they should give us an option – maybe just RM10 or RM12 to go up the observation deck and the full RM38 for the ‘package’. in this way more people would be able to go up.
ok so not being able to go up the tower, we just hang around outside the tower, where there is a lovely christmas decoration scene – sort of a winter wonderland scene with snow everywhere. took lots of pictures of the cute snowmen, penguins, reindeers. here is one of the picture.
after the tower, we decided to go to batu caves. i had been to batu caves before but that was ages ago (think over 20 years ago). i wanted to see the new giant statue. S thought i wanted to climb up the over 200 steps – but oh no, i didn’t want to. actually i would have wanted to but the problem was that i had some stomach upset after my lunch at mid-valley. was scared what happened if i’m halfway up there and suddenly i need to let go. haha. so J and i went into the temple outside to have a look. took some photos there too.
i was surprised when a priest waved to me to ask me to go over to him. i thought what is he going to tell me something or admonish me for taking photos but i was surprised that he only wanted to give me blessing. he hold a tray with er… what you call.. the blessing stuff… and i see money too. ahh… so we have to made some donations after the blessing. i actually didn’t (typical ‘kiam siap’ penangite? or maybe i thought do i have to pay to get bless? after all, i didn’t ask for it. haha). anyway, after J was blessed, i saw him taking out some money from his pocket to put on the tray so i thought aiya, i’d better do that too. the priest place the er… is it call ‘puthu’? a red dot… on our forehead.
it was time for dinner after batu caves and S took us to petaling street area for chinese food. well i wanted chinese food. i would have prefer some mamak food (no, i’m not boycotting mamak food), but due to my stomach upset, it’s risky, so opted for chinese food.
well after dinner it was back to sharon’s condo – home. had an interesting day as get to meet 3 of my KL friends and get to go places. thanks to all of them.
the next day, it was time for me to go home sweet home – back to penang. i had a wonderful time in KL. i reseverd my greatest thanks and appreciation to my dear friend, sharon (whom i had known for more than 20 years!) for accommodating me and for everything. THANKS A LOT, SHARON.
