germs across the sea, they see….

but elephants in front of their eyes, they no see.

this is a direct translation of the malay’s saying ‘kuman di seberang lautan nampak, gajah di pelupuk mata tiada nampak.’ (in english it is ‘able to spy a mote from across the sea while at the same time missing the plank before their eyes’).

well, this saying was used by helen ang in a wonderful article she wrote in malaysiakini on 9 march, to highlight on the religious ‘imbalance’ in our bolehland. i came across the article via politics101. hop over there to read.

ok i know this is a sensitive issue to talk about but what the heck, i’m already known for raising sensitive issues. anyway, remember this is a personal blog and…… (you know the rest!).

my comments to the article:

what to do. it has been this way all the while… and it is because islam is the official religion of bolehland. being official religion, it means they are ‘higher’ than other religions? preferances and favouritisms should be given to them? well, if so, i don’t so much mind the reasons… but i hate it when there are some silly reasons.

i am not articulate and profilic enough like helen ang, don’t know how to say out what i am going to say so i’ll just give examples of the silly reasons.

e.g. the shah alam catholic church saga, when plans were submitted for the construction of the church, the gomen found out it will be taller than the mosque, they said no way, cut down on the height.

e.g. banning bibles in bahasa malaysia (at one time).

e.g. any non islam shows/exhibition if announce in public must carry the tag ‘not for muslim’.

insecurity on their part? lack of faith on their part?

i always mentioned many times before that ‘freedom of religion’ in bolehland is bullshit. freedom to practise religion, yes… just that, but with so many restrictions imposed on the other religions (except the official one), where do we have the freedom?

i would like to see one day RTM giving air time on TV and radio for a buddhist/hindu/christianity religious show. i would like to see one day the gomen funding the contruction of places of worship of ALL religions. oh! should i dream on?
