be careful when using ATM
… and don’t be greedy to want to pick up money on the floor, thinking the money is yours, when someone pointed out some dropped money to you.
apparently this scam i read about in the sun happened in penang too. the thieves would work in group of 2 or 3. first they’ll pretend to scatter some RM1 or RM10 notes around the ATM. then someone will tap you on your shoulder while you are making transactions at the ATM, informing you that you have dropped the notes. unsuspecting, and thinking those notes were really yours that you dropped, you turned to pick up those notes… and whoosh!!… in an instance your ATM card will be stolen. read more about it in the sun.
sometimes i would go to maybank in bishop street to use the ATM. the first time i was there, i grumbled to myself, why is the place so small and narrow. the space is only wide enough for one person to stand, and only about 2 persons behind you in queue to wait inside. that is if the other machines don’t have people! if the other machines have people, only 1 – the one doing the transaction can be there. i don’t like it being small, narrow and cramped. well now that i read about this scam which require 2 or 3 of the thieves, i’m glad that the ATM cubicle in maybank bishop street is narrow!
oops! i have revealed which ATM i went so will someone stalk me now? well if anyone do, they’ll regret because my bank has no money… i mean little money… yes, less than RM5,000. nobody will be interested in a poor me. 🙁
