not only did khalid, s’gor CPO lied but…

… he gave us one of the silliest, funniest statement (from malaysiakini, ‘we acted to save under-age cyclists‘):

"As for the children, we have actually saved them from being misused and exploited by irresponsible people… we did not arrest them."

yeah right. it sounds like an arrest, it looks like an arrest but it is not an arrest.

khalid had said: "When giving their statements, these children said they did not know why they were asked to participate in the cycling event" but….

Fifteen-year-old cyclist S Thivyakumar lambasted the cops for thinking that the teenagers were “too young” to take care of themselves and join Jerit’s campaign.

“They keep asking us whether we know why we are here… of course we do!” he exclaimed.

“We are here to fight for a better life… and we are not young children that every time we want to go to the toilet, one of them has to accompany us,” he said.

see how khalid lied? how can the children not know what they were doing when they willingly participated WITH the consent of their parents?

in nov. haris ibrahim of the people’s parliament blog had proof that khalid lied regarding the arrest of people during the singing of ‘negara ku’ at the anti ISA vigil in PJ. then somebody was mentioning something about him lying regarding the bukit antarabangsa landslide. and now this regarding the JERIT bicycle campaign. about ‘saving’ the under-age cyclists (see malaysiakini’s article ‘s’gor police chief is lying, claims jerit‘), about not knowing of the existence of JERIT, that JERIT is something new. (see the video at the end of the post – jerit coordinator, kohila, explaining JERIT had been in existence since 6 years ago).

there is a personal account from one of those who were arrested. read it in full from susan loone’s blog or nathaniel tan’s blog.  i would like to highlight an extract from the personal account:

As protest outside gathered momentum , a complete battalion of FRU ,Water cannon arrived . The crowd outside carried on chanting and demanding for our release. As they were about to use the water cannon, the rain poured heavily. The police did not use the water cannon .

As rain kept pouring heavily , the car park where all of us who were being detained began flooding . All of us were standing cold in a river of water . We demanded to be shifted out of the parking lot . As usual the police buat tak tahu . Tempers flared . I moved to rip of the yellow police tape and walk out of the parking lot . The rest followed. A fight pursued between us and the police as they were trying to push us back into the parking lot and we were moving out . The officers couldn’t stop us . The Light Strike Force rushed in . They pushed us back with their shield and batons . The CPO looked and couldn’t do anything .

whoa! imagine that! FRU with water canon!! light strike force using their shields and batons!! were those people terrorists? hard-core criminals? why need FRU and water canon?

i hate to bring this up but i guess i have to – were the police being so hard on the JERIT cyclists because most of them were indians? you know, during the nov. 9 anti ISA vigil at the city hall where the light strike force police moved in when the people were singing negara-ku, a source told me the police were tageting the indians! why are the police and the government so afraid of the indians? were they thinking JERIT is actually for the hindraf members to get together?

clearly the police had been and are intimidating the JERIT cyclists. so much had been happening. all over the states they ran into problems with the police. this latest one at rawang had prompted suaram to urge people to lodge a police report against the selangor CPO, khalid!  see the sample letter at nat’s blog. if you don’t fancy writing a letter to lodge the report, try SMS direct to khalid.

Last night all the activists and cyclists above 18 were released after 2am after taking statements. However some activists did not want to leave the station as the younger cyclists were being held in the police station. First they said want to send those below 18 to welfare homes, but as there is no place in the welfare home so the cyclists are still in the police station. The CPO said , that the cyclists will be released when their parents arrive. The parents of the cyclists majority froM Perak are on their way to the police station now. They will also be having a press conference condemning the police action The CPO said the children were confused why they are part of the cycling campaign which is a blatant lie. This cyclists cycled from Kedah and they passed many hurdles, and are they saying the cyclists don’t know what they are there for , sound dumb isn’t it.
