association for wives… none for husbands kah?

gee i may sound stupid or naive but i didn’t know there is such an organisation as balkis – association of wives of state assemblymen and members of parliament in selangor. then there is also bakti – federal organisation of wives of ministers. i only got to know of them a few days ago when i read about it in jeff ooi’s blog.

then  there is one in kedah too known as bidara – wives of the kedah assemblymen and parliamentarians welfare body. in perak too – er… what is it known as? i remember reading about it somewhere but forgot the name; and of course one in penang, known as pertubuhan bunga tanjung.

balkis… bakti… bidara… bunga tanjung… gee are these associations really necessary? why are the wives of assemblymen and MPs so special that they need an association? what about the assemblymen… er… assemblywomen and MPs who are women – why there is no such associations for them – say association of husbands of state assemblywomen and MPs?

how come from malaysian bar they mention balkis as wives of selangor assemblymen and MPs welfare and charity organisation’, whereas some places (like jeff ooi’s) did not mention the ‘welfare and charity organisation’ part. i notice bidara mentioned ‘welfare body’.

so what are these associations for? for the wives… to do what? charity and welfare work? if so, how come we rarely heard of them doing charity work! or is it more likely for the wives to go globe trotting?

these associations suddenly came to light when sun2surr reporter, nades, revealed that RM10 mil were gone in 3 days from balkis… 3 days after barisan alternative took over selangor state.

why were they in such a hurry to transfer the money to the other association – bakti?  did they have the right to do so, so asked malaysian bar. did they consulted the auditors when doing so? according to elizabeth wong, state executive councillor for tourism, consumer affairs and environment , no.

ok it’s past my bedtime (2.00am!) so i had better go now even though i still have lots to say. if you want to read more on this issue, i suggest you go to this post of beritamalaysia. lots to read there (some in full, some with links).

updated say-say: i was just going to say if these associations are for wives of assemblymen and MPs, why want to dissolve balkis? if PKR, DAP, PAS are in power and those men are assemblymen and MPs, then these associations should be for them! however, it seems that kedah’s bidara had said it openly that their association is for BN’s wives only, so i guess it is the same with the others ba… and bi…. whatever. to me this is strange…. er… no not strange if it happen in our bolehland!

lastest from the star re: penang’s bunga tanjung association – the government is probing them!
