family carnival at church

(wanted to post this yesterday but something was wrong with my blog so didn’t.)

on sunday, i went with my mum and sis to our church’s (cathedral of the holy spirit) family carnival. the carnival was one of the fund-raising project for the christian community centre in sg. ara.

i was there at about 10.30am, thus missed the opening ceremony. this was where they had the opening ceremony – a small make-shift stage and a banner tied with lots of balloons.

the following is a picture of one section of the food stalls. there were nearly, i think 50 kind of food and drinks stalls, not forgetting the face painting stall and the crafts and jumble sale stalls and of course games stalls (of which i was stationed at one of the game stall. more of that later). oh, there were two char koay teow stalls, one of which i saw lilian there helping out with the order. i bought 2 plates of char koay teow from her.

next picture shows the dewan (hall), where we can sit down to makan (eat). spacious and air con! we don’t feel like leaving the hall after we were there because outside it was very hot. yes, that sunday, the weather was very hot indeed. we had to leave the hall when it was time for us to jaga the game stall.

between the 3 of us, we had RM100 to spend at the fair, so we brought quite a lot of food – eat-in and take-away! even bought some food for dinner so that we don’t have to cook dinner.

this was the game stall which i was in charged together with my sister (our ‘shift’ was from 12 noon). the game was called ‘you light up my life’. the objective of the game was to light up all 12 candles (placed on an egg holder) with a single match. 2nd picture shows a young boy trying his luck with my sister looking on.

next to us, on the left, was the ‘blind samurai’ game stall, which was manned by my brother and sis-in-law. in this game, you have to hit a tin hanging from the ceiling while blind-folded (3 chances to do it). 1st picture you see a young boy trying his luck while at the 2nd picture, the parish priest, fr. FA, sportingly joined in the game!

the stall on our right was an easier game where small kids can join in – the ping pong game. all you have to do is to throw ping pong balls into the bowls.

as the ‘you light up my life’ game was quite a difficult game, there were not many people coming to play it, so easy work for me lah. haha. when my nephew asked me to choose which game stall to take care of, i quickly jumped to take care of this stall. i don’t like to take care of the ping pong (or bowling) stall as i know i will have to run around collecting the ping pong balls that people threw. haha. lazy me. however, the one disadvantage of taking care of this stall was that, there was no fan for us (since we are using candles) and you can imagine how hot we were at the stall.

we were at the stall until 4.00pm when it was time for us to wrap up. at that time, the lucky draw was announced too. i was hoping for the 2nd prize – a PDA phone but too bad, me always unlucky, cannot get lucky draw. (i haven’t bought my phone yet since it was stolen, thus still looking for a phone).

i enjoyed myself very much at the carnival. indeed it was a family carnival for me as all my family were there – as i mentioned my sister and i manning the ‘you light up my life’ stall, occasionally my mum would drop in, while next door stall was manned by my brother and sis-in-law. a few stalls away, my niece was there, while my nephew, being the youth in charge of the game stalls, was walking up and down the stalls.

i hope that the church managed to collect lots of money from the carnival, to contribute to the building fund.
