kiss and ride?
kiss and ride to reduce traffic? huh? whazzat? it got me puzzling and wonder what in the world they mean. each time you want to ride your vehicle, you have to kiss somebody, and this will reduce traffic? huh?
so i read on and found out that this is the name of a campagin started by KL’s city hall to reduce the number of single-occupancy cars in the city.
special lanes have been made available at four LRT stations for drivers of cars to stop at the lane and drop their family (or friends?) to take the LRT. and when they dropped their family, they are suppose to kiss them goodbye. kiss, then drive away, thus the name ‘kiss and ride’.
what? kissing in public? allowed by city hall? did i read that right? is this the same city hall that about a year ago charged two students for kissing in public and made world headlines that kissing and hugging is considered indecent behaviour? and now they are encouraging the people to kiss in public!! strange turn-around by city hall i see.
while this campaign by city hall is good in a way, but why choose such a name for the campaign, when they had been strongly opposed to kissing in public?
on another issue, the aim of this campaign is to encourage people to take LRT and bus instead of driving their cars, thus the aim is also to reduce number of cars on the road. all fine and well… but how’s the LRT and bus service? if they are any good to begin with, people don’t have to be encouraged to use them. i know for a fact that many car (and bikes) drivers prefer the public transport, and not drive on their own… IF the public transport is good and efficient.
