temperatures rising!
if you thought you are mistaken thinking i’m talking about my temperature rising (anger), don’t be…. i am. i mean my temperature is rising indeed… after i read on the star front page ‘highland warning‘ which warned that temperature in the higlands are fast rising all due to over-development. over-development. that is the word that got my temperature rising.
i had long ago voiced my concern on all those development that was going on in our highlands e.g. genting highlands, cameron highlands, fraser’s hill, penang hill.
it was mainly the clearing of forests/trees that contribute to the rising temperature. from that same article:
"If you clear trees, it results in what we call a microclimate change, which means a change of the climate within that area.
"While 1°C or 2°C does not sound like much, these small changes can cause major changes in the rainfall and weather patterns, which in turn, canaffect crops.
yes, trees are very important to us. do you know that a big tree is equivalent to 10 air-conditioners? yes, that’s right. ten. 10. trees cool the air around them… that’s how it act like an air conditioner to the environment. beside, the leaves of the trees also trap dust, thus reducing pollution, and the roots of the tree help to prevent erosion.
see, so many uses the tree provide for us and yet we humans chop them down for the sake of development. so sad.
the star yesterday also mentioned that penang hill is now getting warmer. already? yet, there had been plans to develop penang hill by having a cable car (similiar to the one in singapore’s sentosa)… and to do that, they need to clear trees!! argh!
can’t these greedy people understand that tourists come to our country to enjoy the cool air and natural surrounding of our highlands, and not classy hotels, exclusive casinos, huge theme park and so on? all these they can enjoy in their own countries! they wanted to develop the area because they want money money money!!
grrr! if i talk more on this, my temperature is really going to explode. already nowadays the weather in penang is so damn terribly hot, i tell you, so i’d better not get hot!
