such cruelty to a ‘haram’ dog

this news ‘dog loses jaw after cruel beating‘ appeared in the star paper dated 21 dec and i don’t know how i had missed it. oh, think i know lah. i had been too busy (by busy i mean i spent most of my time online. haha) to read the paper that when i do read it, i just skimmed through it, thus some news escaped me.

well how do i know of this news then? via tv smith, who sent a ‘circular’ email 2 days ago, informing about this news and asking us to blog on it. always willing to please (ahem!) i am complying with tv smith to blog on it. i’m sure many other bloggers (on tv’s list) had received the email from him too and who knows some had already blog about it.
in this news it seemed that two indonesian workers had beaten a dog, named joy, senselessly until her jaw was broken and tongue hanging out, crying ‘haram! haram‘. (unclean).

well, tv wants us to highlight on what dr habeeb rahman ibramsa, a lecturer in quran and aunnah studies at the international islamic university in gombak planned to do. he had volunteered to give a talk to the foreign workers who were involved in the beating of the dog, named joy.

“I wish to end this ignorance. The Quran does not support violence against animals; I am willing to give lectures, presentations and screen videos that support what I am saying.

I hope the public, Government officials, foreign workers and others who need to hear this truth will attend,” said Dr Habeeb.

er… excuse me dr habeeb, methink we…. er… they… er… we and they already know this truth – all religions don’t support violence against animals of course. it’s obvious. what you should tell them should be more on the ‘haram‘ thingy. is a dog really consider haram to muslim? not at all… from what i had read before here and there, there is no mention of dog being haram in the quran. no i don’t mean i read the quran! i meant from what i read in blogs, discussion groups, forums, and my own googling works, like for instance at the muslim american society Q&A, an ustaf had responded that a dog is not haram. over here, you will be able to read a longer answer, which also touch on beatings.

i hope dr habeeb would educate those ignorant indonesians muslims that a dog is NOT haram, not only concentrating on violence against animals. hope he will give presentations and screen videos to support the fact that a dog is not haram.
meanwhile, on saturday there was a gathering at plaza damas, KL where members of the public turned up to show their sympathy to joy.

p/s – i am expecting the bright moon to come shinning in with his/her comments (here and the bottom post). s/he always does when my post touch on islam, or esp. on PAS.
