shame, shame… so they still wanna continue to be spoon-fed

dr lim teck ghee, the research director of the asli’s report had tendered in his resignation! excerpt from sun2surf:

Dr Lim Teck Ghee, director of Asli’s Centre for Public Policy Studies, said he stood by the report which stated that bumiputra corporate equity ownership could be as high as 45% and not 18.9% as stated in government statistics.

read how so many people supported dr lim and salute him as a man of integrity in jeff’s comments. i also made a comment as  such:

sad. very sad. if i were dr lim, i would have resigned too. imagine dr lim, a professional, who put all his heart into the study had those top MPs who are not professional at all or even economic experts, accusing his study as ‘rubbish!’, ‘unreliable!’, ‘irresponsible’. how would you feel if you are in dr lim’s position?

granted even if the gomen disagree with the findings, and a possibility ASLI could be wrong, the gomen should act like matured reasonable adults, as someone mentioned here, to engage in dialogue with ASLI instead of hurling accusation at them.

always it is they who are right and others who are wrong.

sad. so sad. i weep for my country.

and do you know what our dear son-in-law said?

Think-tank Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (Asli) should be more careful when publicising future reports that touch on issues of race and other sensitive matters, said Umno Youth deputy head Khairy Jamaluddin.

good lord! he’s mentioning race again!

what wits0 had once said in comments is so very true – about sensitivity to them is a one way traffic. what other people do/say, will be consider racial and sensitive but when it is they who do/say likewise, it’s ok. grrr!! so geram!!

read further what he said either at malaysiakini, or if you don’t have a subcription with malaysiakini, at beritamalaysia.

don’t forget to read too ktemoc’s take on the mouse rempit (aiya, that is this khairy boy lah).

=====

yesterday at around 4.00pm lim kit siang asked “will asli buckle under to pressure to apologise and withdraw report?” . then at 7.50 pm, sun2surf reported “asli backs down over NEP data“.

sad. so sad. the mighty UMNO wins again… with threats, strong-arms tactics and political pressures.

remember when i blog on the NEP and mentioned that the asian strategy and leadership institute (asli) came out with a study that shows bumiputera’s equity has exceeded the 30% and is now at 45%? well at once all the UMNO bigwings (and some non UMNO bumis too) jumped up and condemned the study. our PM, badawi criticised the study as unreliable and UMNO VP, muhyiddin cried “rubbish!“. not only that, he did, what ’em UMNOputera are good at, he threatened asli with government action if they fail to retract the report. and i think one (or him?)… if i’m not mistaken (i stand corrected) did play the racial card too claming that the study came from a non malay group, there must be some hidden agenda or what.

ex PM, dr m had labelled asli’s finding as ‘illogical’ because he said bumiputera’s control of the economy were far below that of other races. what? after more than 30 years of handouts, they still can’t control the economy? what does this tells us?

well, so now bully boy muhyiddin and his kaki-kaki are satisfied as asli had retracted the report? shame on you, UMNO boys. first for your bullying tactis and for being an over-grown babies who still need to be spoon-fed with the NEP.

even before this recent asli’s controverisial study, many of us already thought long time ago the 30% had been achieved. well! now, with asli, a profesionnal group coming up publicly with the findings, why is it those UMNO MPs (most, not all) jumped up and down? of course. they were scared that if it shows that bumis’ quota is over 30%, there is no more reason to sustain NEP. they still want to be spoon-fed and grab grab grab, so no way should they admit it is over 30%. if they do, NEP must tutup kedai and that is definetely not what they want.

according to the gomen’s finding, they are only at 18.9%. imagine! after 35 years and only 18.9%? i guess by the time malaysia achieve vision 2020, they will say it is only 20% and NEP need to be continue. huh? NEP in vision 2020? what kind of vision is that then when a certain race need to have handouts to advance?

btw, accoding the sun2surf, although asli has officially retracted their report, those involved in putting the findings together are standing by their work. good for you, guys.

Sources said although Asli has officially agreed to withdraw the report, those involved in putting it together are standing by their work. However, they accept that the political reality left the institute no choice but to back down in order to stop the attacks on Asli.

what a sad sad political reality we are in. 🙁
jeff also had an interesting post on this issue and one of the commenter said:

This dispute is not going to end if there is no transperancy or the willingness of the Government to show the rakyat the mechanism of how the 18.9% bumiputra ownership being calculated. I think most of the UMNO leaders will jump into this issue demanding withdrawal of this report and show some muscle strength as the champion of Melayu and earn some credit for being the hero who defends it’s race. Forget about the statistic as most of the rakyat does not understand them. The racism element is what interest them.

If the government is sincere, why don’t have a proper discussion in a proper professional environment and study the statistic together. If ASLI is wrong, then ASLI stands to be corrected but if the government is wrong, then would the government stands to be corrected?

i agree whole-heartedly but go read my comments there in response.
