careful…. something’s brewing
whoaa!! something’s brewing? interesting. let’s wait and see.
Police are investigating several websites which allegedly carried inaccurate and speculative reports on the pepper spray incident involving Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Friday.
ahh. luckily i have not blog on the old man pepper sprayed incident.
however, as deputy internal security minister datuk fu ah kiow had said that action would be taken against website owners if they had breached the sedition act, i suppose it serve as a warning to the rest of us bloggers (at least those who blog on socio-political) to be careful with what we blog on.
maverick had also highlighted on this, cautioning us bloggers not to use the phrase “believed to be”. well, fu said it:
statements carrying the qualification “believed to be” would still be deemed irresponsible even if they were later retracted.
wow! like that one ah. so strict eh. so now i have to be careful of how i blog? no more hentam right left and centre at the gomen?
few days ago, several bloggers were talking about how fu said the gomen is considering to amend the printing press and publication act (PPPA) to include electornic and internet media (which my dear, means blogs too). this came about after pak lah mentioned that the mainstream media need not compete with websites and blogs on the internet to publish speculative and sensational news. however, later on he denied that (as can be seen from the first link i have here). no, i did not said we are going to amend the act, he said, what i said was merely that we are studying the act to see if it meets our current needs. huh? about the same thing, i see.
he also said that the gomen will keep its promise not to censor internet but caution us to be careful with what we write esp. on sensitive issues.
funny – if that’s the case, then there shouldn’t be any question of including internet under PPPA.
not so funny – though he said they are only studying the act and assured us no censorship but yet he had said that action would be taken against website owners if they have breached the sedition act.
well, looks like they are watching over us after all, right, waiting to shove the sedition act upon us… so isn’t this kind of like we are under PPPA, there is censorship on internet?
