one truth. believe it.
argh! so much to blog about yesterday (actually i meant early wee morning today, since i usually blog after midnight) but i don’t know why i cannot access my blog site. don’t know where the problem lies. anyway now i’m staying back after office hours to blog. these days i’m not at home and blogging is not so easy to do (more about that – not being at home – later).
ok so yesterday was the ‘decoding the da vinci’ talk by rufus bruno pereira. he was a good eloquent speaker – no need notes at all to refer to talk. everything was in his head and popped out just like that. there was a good crowd present – almost fill the church, like a usual sunday mass crowd.
pity i cannot see clearly the powerpoint presentation as it was high up too far away. also sometimes i can’t hear properly what was being said. anyway as one of his topic was ‘history as a concept’ he started off by telling us that history is the reconstructed past and stressed that “one can’t falsify history if history is based on data”, and seemed that throughout his talk, he kept emphasising on this several times. he wanted to show how dan brown had ‘falsify’ history.for one thing, dan had made an error where mary magdalene came from. magdalene is always known as ‘mary of magdala’ to us, and magdala is the city where she came from. it is located north of tiberias, whereas dan mentioned magdalene was from the south!
another point bruno made was regarding the last supper painting, where dan insisted the one on jesus’s right was magdalene. we all know that, that was john the youngest of all the apostles. he was still a very young youth (think under 20) and youth at that time looks quite er… effiminate. then also the point that renaissance painters that time like learnardo da vinci and michaelangelo, likes to paint men with some kind of feminine traits.
of course after all his talk, somebody had to stand up to say, what we already know, what i had been saying all along too – that the da vinci code book/movie is pure entertainment of which we don’t believe in all those points/facts at all – BUT this person added that then it’s a waste of time to have talks and so on to rebuke the facts in the book/movie. ahh but bruno respond that not everybody thinks like her. there are some who beileive dan’s theory, and he quote an example that at one of his talk, a young girl stood up to say “you mean to say the movie is all lies? nothing of the facts are true?” and when bruno replied yes, the girl felt so disappointed.
anyway, whatever, i think this hoo-haa on the da vinci code is dying down now (hopefully). there is only one truth for us christians, and we believe in it, that’s good enough. no book or movies will shake our belief. maybe it is time to give the topic a rest now. ok but before i do, i would like to point you to this interesting and cute site, done by some christian youth in singapore. there is the hokkien version and the singlish version. singlish version has some part in hokkien but don’t worry, there are sub-tittles, so you can understand if you don’t understand hokkien. (btw, the title of this post came from that site).
