fear of the police?
ok, this is in continuation to the post below about the police. so pak lah had spoken up… but what did he said? he merely warned the police to:
stop harassing women tourists from china and stop intimidating whistleblowers.
did i say warned? nah, it’s just a message spoken out in the cabinet meeting.
according to that nazri guy, the minister in the PM’s department, and also chairman of the human tights parliamentary caucus, he and pak lah will meet the police soon. well, i hope something fruitful would come out of it.
in the meantime, about student foo’s case, according to the deputy internal security minister, noh omar, he said that there’s nothing wrong with the policeman filing a defamation suit against foo as it is the policeman’s rights… but nazri insisted that such suit is against public policy.
hmm… who is right? both? perhaps. noh omar could be right in a way that speaks of rights and personal matters but look at it this way, there are certain things you don’t go and do and claim it is your rights (like punch someone in the head, and say it is your right to use your own fist anyhow you want)… because as nazri said, that certain things are against public policy.
it had been said that in the case against the policeman by student foo, the policeman had been acquitted. being acquitted doesn’t necessarily mean he was not guilty (right?). also as nasri had said
the government’s effort to fight corruption will be undermined if someone who lodges a report against police personnel is sued. this will stop people from lodging reports about corruption.
how true.
btw, here’s an interesting take from mgg pillai on the chinese nationals and police and corruption issuse.
