why non malays don’t like national school

in yesterday’s dewan rakyat sitting, an MP calls for study why national schools fail to draw non-malays.

and he, datuk rosli mat hassan (BN-dungun)asked:
“is it because national schools are perceived as malay schools? this should not have happened as the schools should reflect a national image suitable for all races.”

and another MP, mohd alwi che ahmad (BN-ketereh)added:
“the issue now is that the malays want national schools to become more islamic but the non-malays said such schools were already too islamic,”

well, well, well. methinks both of them hit the nail on the head.

this discussion was brought up, i’m sure arising from the hoo-haa UMNO/utusan make when they jumped up to protest at once when MCA request for more chinese schools in their (MCA) memorandum for the 9th malaysian plan. i had blog about it here.

as in the case of the hoo-haa over the bar council’s suggestion of an interfaith commission, several malay groups jumped up saying islam is malaysia’s official religion – nobody should question islam (or something like that), i’m sure they would jump up and say islam is the official religion, thus national school has to be islamic, so i guess the BN MP for dungun was right.

some letters from malaysiakini pertaining to this subject:
where are the ministers’ children studying?
there is demand for chinese school.
