still eat fish?

many rumours had been flying around about fishes in the sea. sometime back, there was this SMS going on the rounds that certain virus had been found in fishes. and now there is this fear of fishes chewing on dead bodies. don’t eat fish, they said. and some even said don’t eat prawns or any seafood too. this article talks more on phuket but it also mentioned malaysia in one line.

are you one of those who fear eating fish? not me. to me, it’s kind of silly to be fearful. someone responded “don’t eat this, don’t eat that, then what to eat?”. people can get so paranoid (but some will argue they are just being careful). like last time during the bird flu, everybody said don’t eat chicken. hey the bird flu is not completely over, you know. so ok don’t eat chicken, don’t eat fish. pork? don’t forget the JE (nipah) virus scare. beef? mad cow disease, remember. ah! better be a vegetarian then!

according to the authority the fear of fish feeding on corpses is very highly unlikely and even so, it won’t pose a health risk as ‘human tissue would be digested and absorbed to form part of the animal’s own tissue’. and a fish seller who lamented that his sale of fish had been going down said that it is impossible the fishes feed on corpses as fish live in the deep water and people died near the beach.

well yes, now people… some people i mean, would say don’t eat fish and all that nonsense but i’m sure after some time, this ‘hysteria’ will die down and people will continue eating fish… or will they?
