help needed tonight at POHD (updated)

it’s heartening to note that many people (about 50) turned up to help despite the short notice. most of them were church members. well friends told friends, and their friends told friends, and so on, thus many turned up.

we were there to pack ‘sanitary items’ individually to be sent to aceh today. fr. fabian is already in aceh together with jerald of KOMAS and as the aceh relief blog stated, these packed sanitary items will be shipped to acheh on wednesday.

we had to pack sanitary napkins, bras of different sizes, panties, men’s underwear, face towel, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, soap into individual packs.

it was like a factory production scene in the relief centre. we had to pack each of the items individually in a bag. volunteers were divided into ‘stations’ e.g. one station packed the sanitary napkins, one packed the bras and so on. then finally a ‘runner’ will bring all those items together in one big bag.

i was station at the sanitary napkin section. we had to pack 10pcs of napkins. since most of the ready-bought napkins (from tesco) were in 20pcs, we had to unpack one packet, then repack into 10pcs. these 10pcs of napkins will go together with the bras, panties, comb, etc. as mentioned above, all individually packed for one person’s use. it’s tedious work, that’s why lots of volunteers were needed. but since there were so many of us, it become fun work!
