god does not act this way

many people had said that the tsunami disaster was an act of god. so too with any other natural disasters, like the recent great flood in china, the killer typhoon in phillipines, and even landslides in our country, were all refer to as act of god.

act of god? i find this rather strange. when you said act of god, you are then blaming god for the disaster. so the earthquake and tsunami was caused by god? do we have such a terrible god, who would want his people to suffer?

i would rather use ‘act of nature’ than ‘act of god’. after all, didn’t we say this was a natural disaster. if you want to say it is a natural disaster and not blame it on men, then you shouldn’t blame it on god too.

i wouldn’t want to go into all that blah blah stuff of our god is a loving god who wouldn’t want his people to suffer and all that, as i would come off as being preachy. however i would like to point out an article i came across from rajan’s blog. (rajan, i saw that post yesterday but today when searching for it, can’t find it)

this article stated that tsunamis are not the wrath of god. an excerpt:
christianity does not teach that god causes natural disasters; nor does it teach that God causes them in order to punish the wickedness of the victims.

well the writer is a christian (catholic priest) so i suppose he mentioned christianity but i’m sure that is also the teaching of all religions.

i find that usually it is the atheist that will question/blame god – “why does god let this happened?” er… or rather… “if there is a god, why does he let this happened?”

i wonder if atheists are among the victims of tsunamis and they are trapped drifting somewhere in the ocean, what will they be thinking? “god, if you really exists, save me!”??

ha! this is like not looking for god when you don’t want him but when you need him, only you look for him. oops. sorry. stop. since i had say i don’t want to be preachy.

anyway, it is heartening to note that malawati, the lady who was rescued by a fishing vessel, said that ‘she prayed hard for allah to send his angel to save her.’ she believe in a god.

then the latest news i caught on tv, about a young man, rizal, found somewhere in the ocean too, during the interview, he was heard to say that he prayed to allah, if it is allah’s will that he be saved, he will be saved, if no, he will not be saved. and in bernama news he was said to recite prayers to withstand hunger.

yes, both malawati and rizal believe in allah. allah gave them the strength to hope to be rescued. i’m sure they did not lamented “allah, oh allah, why does this has to happen?” while adrift in the ocean. they believe this is not an act of god.
