tsunami tragedy
the waves that swept into penang.
picture by paul harriman, taken from bbc news.
other pictures and many interesting articles can be found there too.
one interesting article found there (BBC) i would like to point out is a Q&A on tsuanami. when this tragedy occured, i had been asking myself how did the tsunami happened? why did a tsunami occurred after an earthquake ? i’m usually a curious person and do like to get technical…. er… i mean read technical. well, i got my answers there. but i want to read further, therefore, i decided to google for tsunami and found two interesting sites here and here. and do you know that the word ‘tsunami’ comes from japan (easy guess i suppose) which means ‘tsu’ for ‘port’ and ‘nami’ for ‘wave’ (not easy guess if you don’t understand japanese).
the latest news from the star says that at least 53 were dead, and 34 missing. in penang, 38 dead, and 30 misisng.
so far, i have not heard of any friends affected by the tragedy. i do have many friends staying in tanjung bungah and balik pulau area, but luckily many of them are not staying near the sea. well of course i’m keeping my fingers crossed (and pray!) not to hear of any bad news from them.
