zoo….. necessary?

much had been said about the national zoo lately… that it is laden with financial problems… it needs to be relocated… or close down? and some say the govt. ought to take over the zoo and so on.

in the star’s paper dated 4 dec., it ask do we need zoo? to me, i would say no, as i had once blog here. as the star rightly says, the argument here is that animals are designed for life in the wild, not for confinement in a zoo for the pleasue of humans. but of course the counter-argument for those who are not against zoo are that the animals will serve as conservation, research and education.

well i don’t mind so much, if in a zoo, the animals are made to live as close to it’s natural habitat but what irks me are animals kept in cages. even so, if they are made to live in their natural habitat in the zoo, nothing can beat the original -letting them lose in the wilds. in this instance, i would have support sahabat alam malaysia (SAM) fully as they are opposed to zoo (read why in that same star article).
