snatch thieves – new menace? old lah!
the hot topic that is going the round in ‘kopi-tiam’ and also of course on some blogs (no no i’m not talking about euro 2004) is regarding snatch thieves, after the incident in johor where chinese daily ‘nanyang’ clerk chong see chin passed away after she became a victim.
the NST headline screamed ‘another senseless death’ because just three weeks ago another victim of snatch theft, clerk chin wai fun, 38, died after she fell and hit the head on a kerb in brickfields, kuala lumpur.
according to chong’s husband, tan hock yee, there were 2 motorbikes… superbikes…. with 3 individuals on it and the bikes bear singapore registration numbers.
i suppose tan had a right to be mad when he said that when he went to lodge a police report the sergeant at the desk told him that they have received several such reports of snatch thieves by the same motorcycle gang, nicknamed ‘the super bike gang‘.
really? then what had the police been doing?
one chinese association in JB, ‘the johor juazhong’ said that the police had to bear a major part of the
responsibility in this chong fee cheng case. i suppose that is because they feel the police had not been doing thier job well to fight crimes that happened in the city.
have any of you been a snatch thief victim before? i haven’t but my mother had been a victim twice. yes, both times by a man on a motorbike. once the man pretend to stop to ask her for direction, then as my mother was talking, he snatched my mother’s gold chain. luckily, my mother did not fall.
i have not been a snatch thief victim but i had been a victim of pickpocket once before…. many years back. er… not pick the pocket but pick the handbag. i was standing by the traffic junction, where there are lots of people waiting to cross too with a handbag sling on my shoulder. i didn’t realised anything until i cross over, reached my destination and suddenly realised the zip on my handbag was opened and found my purse missing!!
