whipping demo in school

what do you think of the caning demostrations held in the taiping SK school? they were also shown photographs of injuries sustained from the whipping.

i saw before those pictures in an exhibition in KOMTAR… an exhibition from the police of course. and they even show exhibits of the whips and that er… what you call it… where they strap the prisoner to be whipped to. yes the injuries looks gruesome. and the er… what you call it… looks so threatening.

deputy internal security minister noh omar said the whipping demonstrations would be staged at schools nationwide in an effort to reduce rising juvenile delinquency. however, it seems that SUHAKAM (human rights commission)had condemned the whipping demostrations. SUHAKAM said that the whipping programs contravened international conventions on the rights of children and against torture, and it was also concerned that demonstrations of whipping would legitimize cruelty, inhuman or degrading treatment.

“in doing so, we would be teaching our children that it is legitimate to use force on their peers either in the form of retaliation or punishment,” it said.
