small fish, big fish… sharks, piranhas

ahh! finally a cabinet minister had been arrested for graft. i know.. i know… some of you skeptical people would say ‘don’t be too happy. it’s just an election ploy’ or ‘sandiwara’ something to that effect. sigh… what to do… whatever the govt. do, bound to be people who are never satisfied. anyway, forget skepticism and election ploy for a moment.

by now we all know that pak lah had been talking a lot on combating corruption. yes we all know corruption is one of the very evil evils in any country, and indeed corruption need to be checked. it’s good to learn that pak lah had decided to concentrate on this evil.

well, on 11 feb. almost all major paper headline screamed that eric chia, former perwaja steel MD had been arrested for graft. ahh, people said, finally a big fish. well, if you talk about being in the corporate world, yes, he’s a big fish.

then on 13 feb. we hear of executive chairman of the sabah land development board, kasitah gaddam, a cabinet minister being arrested, and some again said ahh, a big fish. well, if you look at the cabinet ministers line-up, is he a big fish? nah, not at all. just a small fish among all the sharks and piranhas swimming in the cabinet. it’s the sharks and piranhas (classified as fishes, right) that pak lah ought to go for… the very (big fishes!) fishes in his cabinet.

at jeff ooi’s screenshot, when he blog on the arrest of eric chia, i made a comment that i would like to see a cabinet minister arrested for graft. well now, i have my wish. that’s why i was glad to learn that this kasitah gaddam had been arrested. but kasitah is only a small fish in the cabinet. as pak lah had said nothing will stop him, as he will catch all the fishes, big or small, hopefully, he will direct ACA to re-open previous graft investigation that had stop or the persons involved not persecute, as what an ACA watchdog had appeal to pak lah to do so. they are none other than the real big time BIG fish, the sharks and piranhas of the cabinet,. the likes of samy vellu, ling liong sik, rafidah aziz, khir toyo, and some even mentioned our ex PM. do you think pak lah will dare to charge his very own top cabinet ministers for graft? for that matter, does he believe they are corrupted? will he want to have the old cases re-opened to charge the ministers, e.g. samy vellu involvement in the telekom shares/maika holdings? i doubt it. i’m sure he will only go for the ‘small fish’ in his cabinet, not the ‘big fish’ in his cabinet.

from the arrest of a big fish in the corporate world and a small fish in the cabinet, the ‘kopi tiam’ talk these days had been “who will be the next fish to be haul up?”. is pak lah now really getting serious in fighting graft? shall i hold my breath and wait for the day when one very big fish (whale maybe) in the cabinet will be hauled up?

i guess my face would turn blue.
