do workers want to wear sexy clothes to work?

by now many of you must have have read about the news of PAS banning ‘sexy’ clothes in the working place, to non muslim too. initially i have not want to blog on it, however as more and more people continue to criticise PAS, i cannot ‘tahan’ anymore and just have to say something.

before i go any further, better to clarify, no, i’m not a PAS supporter please. i merely want to point out that mostly, if not all, of PAS’s statement had been twisted and sensationalized by the mainstream media.

well few days after that news appeared on PAS’s dress code, yesterday we hear from PAS that it was not a dress code but merely an ‘advisory’. whether you believe PAS was making a turn-around after receiving flaks from many, or you believe yes it was a dress code at all, doesn’t really matter. what matters is why so many people go for PAS’s throat after reading on this so called dress code… or a better word for it, according to terrenganu’s municipal council president dr sulaiman abdullah, ‘guidelines’.

well most of the news you read re: PAS’s ban of sexy clothes comes from the mainsteam media… and we all know the mainstream media is BN controlled. and we all know how the mainstream media like to sensationalise on PAS’s statement. have you ever stop to think this guidelines as stated by PAS had already been implemented in some govt. services like teachers. they are not allowed to wear t-shirts, short sleeve, and for women teachers no mini skirts. and for other govt. bodies too, there had been ruling on dressing exactly like what PAS stated – no sleeveless, no mini skirts, no jeans…… so what else is new? so why all the bising-bising when PAS make the statement?

anyway, isn’t it simple common sense that workers rather NOT wear mini skirts or low cut blouse to work? just imagine, a lady with mini skirts in her workplace, bending down to pick up a paper clip… whoooo…. free show for all to see! same thing with low-cut blouse… but no need to bend, just sit or stand when talking to her, men’s eyes would inevitably focus on her cleavage.

coming back to, dr sulaiman abdullah again, i agree with him when he felt that the there was nothing unusual in the guideline as workers in the government sector and those who have dealings with them were also required to dress decently.

“isn’t that what is normally expected when you are doing official work? for example when you enter the state assembly and the parliament you are required to dress decently,” he pointed out.

yes indeed. do you remember sometime back, a man complained that he was not allowed to enter, i think the immigration office when he was dressed in shorts? and remember some JPJ officers refused to admit some women who were wearing sleeveless tees/blouse for driving tests? see, it happened already for the ruling coliation, so why bising-bising when PAS came up with this guidelines?

the most bising person is that ‘kepala pusing’ lawyer, who wants to sue terengganu! imagine that! nothing better to ‘pusing’ his head on i guess.

sometimes i feel that most of what statement PAS came up with, BN had already been doing it… but in the silent quiet unknown way… whereas ‘stupid’ PAS has to announce it to one and all, therefore allowing itself to be shot left right and centre… all fueled by BN. at least PAS is honest.
