can we believe the BA?

have you heard…. the barisan alternatives (BA) has chart a new direction for the coming poll? it calls for a ‘new malaysia’ based on justice and equality. it is interesting to note that in their 16 points declaration. among many other things, they pledged:

quote== to end race-based politics and the malays-first affirmative action policies – the two mainstays of the ruling government that Mahathir inherited and consolidated during his 22-year tenure.==unquote

hmm… i wonder are we to believe them on this? end raced-based politics? so does this means non malays can join PAS? malays will be very willing to join DAP?

end the malays-first affirmative action? really? i doubt it. will they do that and become fair to all races? Maybe it is just a ploy to attract non malays to vote for them.

the frightening thing is they also go on to say:

quote==In the new Malaysia, Islamic values will be the way of life of the people but people have freedom of worship without compulsion==unquote

why bring in islam? the impression i get is the ‘new malaysia’ is for muslims, since islamic values will be the way of life in the new malaysia? and they were talking about abolishing malays-first affirmation action policies… why don’t they abolish too islam first policy?

i don’t know. though in a way i do want to vote for the BA but i’m rather skeptical at all the claims/pledges they made.
