whine whine whine
that’s what our dear PM said that we malaysians love to do. front page of the star dated 29 sept. headlined it big and bold ‘Whining Malaysians’.
however the online version of the star had another heading, malaysians always complain about projects.
does this means the word ‘whining’ comes solely from the reporter? well I guess it is because dr m said we malaysians like to complain and protest.
he cited 2 examples: the proposed thermal solid waste products incinerator in broga and the abattoir for the slaughter of pigs in rawang. and he made use of the country monaco to compare with us, especially saying that the F1 race in monaco was held right in the heart of the city and the people did not complain about the loud noises, whereas for us, just hearing the roar of aircraft we complained like mad.
why is it people like to use the word ‘whine’? i had been accused of whining in the beritamalaysia
mailing list, of which i’m a long time subscriber, by two listers there (one old member and one new member) – always these same two listers. what can i say but, sorry, friends, that is rather an immature way of labeling people when you don’t like what the person said.
what exactly does the word ‘whine’ means?
well this was what i found in one of the many online dictionary
1. To utter a plaintive, high-pitched, protracted sound, as in pain, fear, supplication, or complaint.
2. To complain or protest in a childish fashion.
3. To produce a sustained noise of relatively high pitch: jet engines whining.
as we are in cyberworld, those 2 listers can’t hear my voice, so definitely no. 1 and 3 are out, thus it is no. 2 for me, i guess. childish? well well what did i say about those who label me a whiner? immature right. see, it takes one to know one!
anyway now that i have my own blog i can whine all i like, so to those who don’t like it, tough luck, mate!! and after all it was only that same two listers who resorted to bestow on me the whining title. (not even 0.01% of the listers, and not 0.001% of all net friends i know)
btw, there is a swedish proverb that goes like this::
Fear less, hope more;
Whine less, breathe more;
Talk less, say more;
Hate less, love more;
And all good things are yours.
hmm… so what say you? should i whine less so that i will be able to breathe more?(no wonder these days i feel breathless going up the stairs. haha). well one thing i know for sure is i will definitely say more here in my blog. ok. then i’ll talk less (no problem with that since i’m actually shy in person!)
oh and do tell us too do you think our dear PM was right when he insinuated we malaysians like to whine.
