penang bus forum
Post on Jun.15, 2006
yesterday, at 5.30pm, i was at the penang bus forum where the groups BUG (bus users groups) and CEPAT, with some NGOs met dr teng hock nan. interesting meeting with dr teng. he announced a 2nd bus revamp plan coming soon.
you can see the pictures and some short write up at the penang watch website. it’s under ‘penang bus forum’ and there are 3 pictures, top picture showing some of the people in the meeting, centre picture show dr teng, and the last picture shows bloggers with 2 BUG members holding placards that they will support BUG! i’m sure you can recognise me there (the short fat one). the picture there is not so clear. i have the same group picture in my digicam too but i have no time to upload it yet. yes, there were 6 bloggers there, including me.
when we left the meeting and went to 1-stop midlands (the venue for the bloggers meet), it was already a little past 7.30pm so i kinda of did not expect to see any other bloggers to turn up. my apology if there were (but i guess due to the so short notice, there might be none). anyway, a few of us bloggers already had a meeting within the penang bus forum itself – so in a way we did meet up on international webloggers day.

Hope Dr Teng can really improve the bus situation in Penang; not just the routes and prices but also the physical conditions of the buses. The other day, under the new system, I took a Milan bus from Sg Nibong to Komtar; it cost me Rm1-50. Under the old system, I used to take a mini-bus from the same place to the same place for Rm1. Now any system that requires the commuter to pay 50% more for the same Point A to Point B trip, cannot be an improved system. What more, the Milan bus looked like one of those from World War 2.
fishtail, yes dr teng did mentioned that they had been purchasing some new buses.
lucia: actually you can’t really compare the the fare between mini bus and stage bus, since fare for mini bus is standard/fix, no matter far or near you go, you pay the same. there were some who with mini bus last time paid RM1 and now with the new bus system stage bus also pay RM1.
btw the milan buses, some of them are the old buses, and some are new – they use the express buses.
if you want to know what dr teng had talked about on the bus system, you can go to the penangwatch website to download the audio in 3 parts.Â
