will mykad tells that you are a blogger?
Post on Aug.27, 2007
yeah i was wondering about this after i read in elizabeth wong’s blog about how suaram director, dr kua kia soong was denied entry into sarawak because his mykad contain information that he had been blacklisted for his involvement in anti-logging activities. oh, and his mykad also tells on him that he was a former member of parliament.
since it is said mykad contain an entire dossier about you, who knows one of the info might be "this person is a goblok blogger". you know how it is now with the government’s ‘anti-bloggers’ attitude, this might be possible!
note: for the fun of it, why don’t you try out the mykad generator?

The potential of the Mykad as a personal data tracking tool par excellence has been there right from the start. One way is data stored directly on the 64KB chip. The other is the possibility of on-line linkage via relational databases to various government agencies.
In theory, virtually any computerised information about a person which various government agencies hold can be linked and retrieved on-line. Its a matter of how much effort and work they put into the linkages.
Imagine – every bit of data about you – your health records, any overseas travelling records, how much income tax you pay, whether you owe any arrears, if you have been suspected of any illegal activity,
The method used to extract Dr. Kua’s background just confirms that Big Brother has indeed linked at least some of this data for its own purposes. Its also an indictment of the establishment of its twisted priorities. It seems for political dossiers like Dr. Kua’s they can have done their detailed homework.
Its scary that they can blacklist a person online for exercising their freedom of speech and freedom of association- as far as I can see Dr. Kua didn’t break any law with his anti-logging activities, merely embarassing to the regime.
I’m sure there are grounds for Dr. Kua to take legal action against the NRD on this. Whatever the police / Special Branch think about somebody is for their own confidential files. Its only public information if a person has been arrested or charged as a suspect to a crime.

You are right. MyKad will be used in ways necessary to curb anti-establishments.
