is it that easy to insult islam?
Post on Oct.05, 2009

(UPDATED: this post was posted to ‘malaysia today’. see the comments there.)
or should it be “are muslim easily insulted?”
i asked this because from what i see, it looks like lots of people (or organisation) had been accused of insulting islam lately.
the latest is of how some muslim NGOs and that extremist kulim PKR MP, zulkfli, accusing sisters in islam (SIS) and other non muslim NGOs of insulting islam on the issue of kartika’s canning.
not too long ago, we had the issue where jelutong MP, jeff ooi, was accused of insulting islam when he made some remark about the jemaah islah malaysia (JIM). then of course we have the cases of karpal singh being accused of insulting islam and even the sultan (that is another story – accused of insulting the malay ruler), the DAP being accused of insulting islam by the bigoted racist paper, utusan malaysia. then of course we have the case of famous blogger, RPK being jailed for insulting islam. there were many many more cases where extremist muslim jumped up and down accusing others of insulting islam.
why? did those people really insult islam?
like in jeff ooi’s case, i read somewhere, a writer said, it can be said jeff insulted JIM but JIM does not represent all of islam, so how can people said jeff insult islam?
how can a group of muslim people accused DAP of insulting islam in a banner where they had the word ‘islam’ together with a vulgar word ‘puk**ak? my oh my, wasn’t that itself an insult to islam?
so RPK was right. it was muslim themselves who insulted islam! “it is the muslim themselves who gave islam a bad name” so he said (among other things).
likewise, my blogger mate, ktemoc was right when he said the kulim MP, who accused SIS of insulting islam, is he himself insulting islam! how so? people like him… their own faith is not strong enough! they lacked confidence in their own faith and does not have the intelligence to defend islam, so they resort to threat to silence the other side by accusing them of insulting islam.
oh dear me! i think i ought to be silent on this islam issue too… because who knows, sooner than later, there’ll be someone jumping up to accuse me of insulting islam (or using the mantra “you are not a muslim, you have no right to talk about islam.” *sic*), so better cabut now.

I dont think “Islam” is easyly insulted. However, I do wonder why “beheaded”? Is Islam a religion that do not tolerate any wrong doings?
I always tot that what good or bad we do now will be judge by the mighty god. Why is a mortal soul doing a judge, jury and executioner?

1. Is it true that non-muslims are not easily feel insulted ? Bullshit.
2. A demonstrator carry a cow head but hindus easily feel insulted. Just because a cow is sacred in hinduism, it does not mean non-hindus also cannot do anything with cow head ! Dont tell me we all cannot eat beef bcos it is holy in Hinduism.
3. “IM does not represent all of islam, so how can people said jeff insult islam” – You have to learn more about Islam. The internet is so vast, pls learn it so you would not quote such silly statement.
4. “people like him… their own faith is not strong enough! they lacked confidence in their own faith and does not have the intelligence to defend islam, so they resort to threat to silence the other side by accusing them of insulting islam.” – I think, it is non-muslim who have no confidence in their own faith, showing it by attacking Islam whenever have a chance. You know, attack others in order to hide own weakness.

Muslims are generally unteacheable because they belief in their faith blindly;there is nothing to substantiate or proof what they believe;in this modern world we must always verify what we see or hear;otherwise it may be sheer garbage wrapped in sheep*s clothing!LOL

hey there fellow blogger
as a muslim i must say most muslim are easily offended. this is because ISLAM is a way of life. every facet of their life is controlled by the set of rules of islam. due to this all ecompassing set of rule it is easy to accidentally INSULT a muslim. you have an opinion about a muslim guy wearing a turban and the dare say something about it.. THATS AN INSULT to them. so that is why its easier to insuly a muslim than say a christian.
that’s my opinion on this.

I am offended when they took the photos of the girl relieving herself on the truck when she was caught during the raid at the pub in the name of Islam. Is that action of taking the photo of a girl relieving herself when there is no where she can do is not an insult to Islam? Does Islam allows it followers to oppress the weak and the minorities? Does that action is base on personal and exonerated his employer from any legal action when he is in full uniform and sanctioned by his employer?

First of all try to learn that Islam is not like any other religion. It has the Shariah which is a comprehensive set of rules governing followers of the faith. Just because your religion does not makes you incapable of understanding this and you try to judge Islam by your religion’s precepts. Understand that both are different and operate differently .
Christianity too used to have its own set of laws but it abandoned those laws when it chose to follow the teachings of Paul instead of Jesus. In Mathew 5.17 to 21 Jesus is reported to have said, not a jot or tittle of the law will pass away until heaven and earth pass away. But whilst earth and heaven are still here, Paul abandoned the law and the church too stupidly followe suit abandoning the teachings of Jesus for Paul’s teachings.

If a group of people r stupid enough to carry a cow’s head as a sign of protest, I would not bother commenting on such a bunch of idiots. By the way, did they not belong to a particular religion? Idiots = religion = ?

Zakaria: “..Jesus is reported to have said, not a jot or tittle of the law will pass away until heaven and earth pass away…”
I’m not a Christian but I know sufficient about the Bible to broadly understand that Jesus came as the Reformist to the old and terrible Jewish Mosaic Laws as demonstrated by the parable of New Wine into Old Wineskins :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Wine_into_Old_Wineskins
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Commandment
But you choose to invert the far broader and real meaning by refering to random quotations – without much pertinence….just so as to “prove” the Syariah as inviolable.
Very briefly, the Old Testament’s Mosaic is harsh and unforgiving and about an ‘eye for an eye’ while the New is about Compassion and Forgiveness.
Clearly the human psyche, society and civilization cannot grow and evolve to any high level under barbaric laws and constrictions.

Whatever excuses people here give for defending Islam, it remains a fact: Muslims get insulted at the drop of a pin and no other religion ever comes close to this “insult prone” status. In fact I think every non muslim must have insulted Islam one time or another, whether deliberately or otherwise every other day. That may be true of muslims too! Of course they feel less insulted when they insult it themselves!

Muslims are indoctrinated to defend islam(at all costs) without being able to read (or understand)the contents of their own scriptures. In this respect, by comparision, many nons who well read have accessed and read various scriptures from various religions and are able to make good comparision. This means they have to be dogmatic rather than rational.
Also muslims fear being ridiculed and mocked. The MCMC has quietly blocked http://www.faithfreedom.org/ This is also proof enough that they’ve lost the debate.

MY QUESTION IS WHY I AM NAMED WITH MUSLIM NAME WITH BIN WHEN I AM CHOOSE NOT TO BE A MUSLIM IN MALAYSIA.AND IN FACT I AM NOT A MUSLIM, THIS IS AN INSULT TO ME.
October 6th, 2009 on 10:35 am
In the 1st place Islam does not have a name. Names used by muslims are Arabic names. There are Arabic Christians who maintain their Arabic name. Example, Tareq Aziz, the former Iraqi Foreign Minister, is a Christian. Prophet Mohamed’s uncle, who was not a Muslim in the beginning, had Abu Mutalib as his name.
What is this notion that non-Muslims cannot talk about Islam? I know of a graduate from the Al-Azhar University, who told me that there even Jewish and Christian lecturers, who teach the Al Quran.
My wife from Uzbekistan, of Syrian descent, finds the practice of Islam in Malaysia, strange with so many restrictions.

” What is this notion that non-Muslims cannot talk about Islam? ” – nb7755
The reason is simple. Because the nons easily out debate them if things are openly discussed.

Regarding the sign carried by the jerk in the photo, did the cow that was beheaded for the ‘sacred’ procession say something insulting about Islam? Did the jokers in the procession actually ‘hear’ the cow speak? Hence in ‘cowspeak’, who is dumb here?

Islam is not a religion that do not tolerate any wrong doings but many Muslims live in countries that do not have the freedom of speech and therefore they are used to make such statements. Muslims in other countries normally have no problem with a open discussion about there religion even if it might be a bit offensive.
