4 very ‘liberal’ malay bloggers
today instead of blogging on something everybody’s blogging about like the 10 cents petrol price cut or the actions to do for RPK or even the inflation (which seemed to be popular posts which many bloggers had blog on), i’m going to introduce to you four of my favourite malay bloggers (writer is more apt for them than blogger actually). not that you haven’t heard of them, i’m sure. they are very popular so i’m sure many have heard of them. lim kit siang is also very fond of them as i see many times he put up their posts in his blog.
ok here they are (in no particular order)…
firstly the young pony-tailed, professor azm,i sharom, an associate professor at at the faculty of law of university of malaya. he has a column in the star paper and his blog, named ‘brave new world’ (after his column’s name) is filled up with his articles from the star.
unlike the other 3, i don’t see any bio-data of himself on his blog. hmm… must be a very humble person. oh i had seen him before at our church’s islamasation talk.
second person – dr. azly rahman. he was the one i recently used his article ‘race relation – why now?‘ taken from malaysiakini. his blog’s name is his own name – asly rahman. he is based in columbia university, new york. scroll righ tto the end of his blog and at the sidebar, you’ll see his bio-data.
third person – dr farish a. noor, a "Senior Fellow at the Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technical University (NTU), Singapore where he is Director of Research for the Research Cluster on Transnational Religion in Southeast Asia…." continue reading his biodata here. the name of his blog… actually not really a blog but just a ‘website’ is ‘the other malaysia’. the other malaysia has other writers beside dr farish noor. incidentally, he’s the only one out of these 4, that i have his blog on my blogroll.
finally, the no hold barred, hard hitting, dr m. bakri musa, a surgeon in california. like dr azly rahman, his blog’s name is his own name – m. bakri musa. his articles sometimes sound very harsh and we can tell at once he is anti umno. one of his latest article, ‘beware! cavemen working’ ought to be read by everyone. it is about RPK’s ISA arrest.
there you have it – the 4 best malay writers according to me. do visit their sites and if you like thier writings, don’t forget to bookmark them and visit often. i must remember to add to my blogroll the other 3.
i’m sure you would have notice that out of these 4, all of them except prof. azmi sharom are not living in malaysia. well… some people have issues with that. they will argue that it is all well for them to talk and talk, to criticise and made judgment but they are not in malaysia, thus they won’t be directly affected by things happening in malaysia, so how could they criticise? well, why not? they are not living in malaysia NOW but they were born malaysians and had one time lived in malaysia, so they have a right to talk about malaysia. i’m sure they not only know of news of malaysia via the media but also from family and friends who are living in malaysia, thus they will be able to relate to what’s happening.
well… i guess whether you’ll enjoy their writings or not, depends on your ‘political stand’. if you don’t find them interesting, care to recommend others?
