change your lifestyle – blog less…
Post on Jun.05, 2008
… so as to save on electricity.
yesterday, as if being hit by a stone (petrol hike, as i had blog earlier) is not enough, here comes a boulder – electricity tariffs to be up.
this electricity hike of 20% for household and 26% for industrial and commercial, will come in effect on 1 july.
The diagram shown here (courtesy of malaysiakini) is for household.
so what now? must we change our lifestyle to surf the net less so as to save on electricity? well, if we want to surf less (or watch tv less), we need to get out of our house/office… but that means we have to use our cars/motorcycles!

Changing lifestyles was originally a slogan /call from greenies who are concerned about dwindling natural resources, mass destructions of eco-systems, extinctions of species, mounting garbage mountains etc-since 30 years ago. We are far from making the kind of lifestyles changes that will help us eg avert global warming. Now the politicians who hike fuel prices has hijacked the slogan to ask people to tighten their belts-realy sneaky! To do this around World Environment Day(June 5th) is almost `blasphemous’! To refocus what changing lifestyles mean we(Penang Watch) are screening a new powerful environmental film `The 11th Hour’ tomorrow (June 8th) 8.00pm, at D’ Space (62 Weld Quay, 4th Floor).
