UMNO supremacy
Post on Jul.23, 2007
i actually don’t want to blog about this but then i cannot tahan already so have to speak up.
first when samseng kerismuddin (alias hishamuddin, the no. 1 UMNO youth man, for the uninitiated) issued a warning to MCA, i can still tahan a little. (notice the ‘warning’ picture here, taken from mob’s crib of course, who else).
then i realised that what the heck…?? wasn’t it just 3 days ago that the internal security ministry had slapped a ban on the mainstream media to report about talk the islamic/secular state issue? that nobody should talk about it except the PM and DPM. kerismuddin guy… who is he? is he a PM or DPM? then why did he talked about the issue and it was reported in the mainstream media, like berita hairan (mainstream media) ? to me, his arrogant samseng warning to MCA was consider as touching on the banned topic.
then what did it… that made me mad enough to blog (as now i’m blogging) was when all of a sudden, yesterday berita hairan a) reported on what his deputy, khairy boy said on this issue, of course insisting malaysia is not a secular state. huh? what? he is the PM’s son-in-law, so it’s ok for him to raise this issue in the mainstream media? oh, he’s also UMNO youth no. 2 of course.. and his chief, the no. 1 also raised this issue.
ahhh… i see, they are UMNOputera, it’s ok but not for MCA, gerakan or MIC. ahh… of course it is that famous double standard again, as lim kit siang pointed out:
Khairy’s arguments are open to challenge on many points, but this is not the purpose of this blog – which is on the double standards so blatant in BN.
Could the four MCA Ministers and the Ministers from Gerakan, MIC, SUPP, PBS and other BN component parties explain why the government ban is not only so arbitrary and undemocratic but so unfair and one-sided?
Is this the real meaning of “power sharing” in Barisan Nasional and media freedom in Malaysia?
ok since now i’m blogging on this issue already, might as well let steam off at kerismuddin’s warning. who the hell he think he is?? how can he issued such a warning? and to his own barisan nasional (BN) party member!!
malaysia unplug asked:
how could a youth wing of UMNO, a fellow component partner in government have the audacity to ‘give warnings to leaders of MCA’ on issues of national and public interest?
yes, talking about whether the country is islamic or secular is national and public interest – why in the first place put a ban on it in the mainstream media, then why did that idiot keris waving UMNOputera had to warn MCA not to talk about it?
this is UMNO supremacy at its best!! UMNO rules! BN is UMNO! UMNO is BN! a vote for MCA, gerakan, MIC is a vote for UMNO to exert it’s ketuanan over us, non UMNOputera. our country is turning ugly with these UMNO leaders actions and antics. you know what to do then during the coming election, do you?
before i go, i have to point you to a well written piece, ‘a constitutional democracy, not an islamic state‘ from our bishop, bishop paul tan, who writes on behalf of the christian federation of malaysia (CFM), being the chairperson. although i have not met bishop tan before but i ‘knew’ him long before he became a bishop. knew him as a priest from here and there – paper, magazines, talk from friends and so on. as a priest, he was already very vocal and he spoke up a number of times on political issues. he had also written a few books.he is a very appropriate person to be the chairman of CFM!

So who would you vote and bet your life and future in the coming elections? The opposition which have no experience whatsoever on running a country?

Rauff,
i would, at least there’s half a chance that this might not happen again, balance of power is important to up keep the fragile democracy of our nation.

ah but BN also started with no experience. everybody started with no experience! also, if you don’t give chance to the opposition, how will they get the experience? it’s like a fresh graduate applying for job. everywhere he goes, people don’t want to employ him because he has no experience… but of course, that was because the people don’t want to give him a chance to prove himself. they must take the risk to let him prove himself, only then he will gain the experience. he does not has the experience but he has the qualification.
likewise the opposition, they may not have experience but being in the opposition, they are ‘qualified’ to run the country if given a chance. whether they will do a good job of it, is a risk we have to take.

i sense that too. just like the time when they like to say muslim should not watch the ‘jesus’ movie or should not attend a christian exhibition, it was an insult to muslim themselves. shame, shame!

yep they will have to thrash it out… and while they are at it, bloggers like me have something to write about.

Dear Lucia,
Do you think opposition eg. DAP, Keadilan, PAS etc got a chance to win or even deny BN 2/3 majority in the coming Penang state election? I’m from KL and I visit Penang state almost yearly. I could see part of the Island is in sorry condition. I had difficulty to figure out why penangites still gave BN a chance to win big in the previous election. Maybe they are really happy with what BN gave them so far in Penang state. Such thing is not allowed in KL. We’ll make sure BN lose if they dont develop the place properly

well frankly no i don’t think the opposition can win but as to denying BN the 2/3 majority, maybe there is a slim chance… just maybe if only people will be brave enough to vote opposition.
well first of all it is not only penang is in a sorry state. other places (incl. part of KL) are too.
secondly not all penangites voted for BN and remember how BN works ok… some dirty tricks here and there.
thirdly are you so sure of “such things is not allowed in KL. we’ll make sure BN lose i they don’t develop the place properly” – as this sound rather arrogant. there are places in KL (or other places) not develop properly but under BN e.g. ijok before the by-election. no proper development there but it was only during the by-election that development was promised here and there.

dear lucia,
“if only people will be brave enough to vote opposition”
agree with you that most chinese voters in Penang dont have the guts to vote for oppositions as what they did in 1969 (then the May 13 incident happened)
I still think Penang can do much better but the politicians there seems very happy with what they planned for the state eg. 2nd Penang bridge – which they want to get loan from China to build it (looks like a political move by BN to earn more votes in the coming election)
“as this sound rather arrogant” – i think the Malaysian voters should be the boss, as they got a choice to elect the government. Of course, very sadly, this seldom happened in msia
